Do I need one?????
The hospital booklet I have says that I should bring one with me when I have the baby... but they're SO big! I mean, how much water do I really need for cleaning my little person?

I know they aren't particularly expensive or anything, so it isn't really that big a deal if I never use it... but i'd rather cut down on the unnecessary clutter if I can!

i didnt take enough vests or babygros. the hospital gave me everything else.

i was really glad i took my mobile phone, i texted all my mates under the bedclothes at 2 in the morning, then cos i forgot to put it on silent when they texted back i woke up the ward and got a telling off from the midwives

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 12:34

i forgot about disposable pants and sanitary towels. i didnt have nearly enough of them, nowhere near. or breast pads

starlover · 27/01/2005 12:34

I would take some sort of bowl into the hospital, I ended up asking for one and all the nurses asked why I hadn't bought wipes!
We got given one and it was useful but I wouldn't have bought one specially. I would use 1 bowl and always top first if you don't want to buy one.

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 12:36

i took 2 of each cos i knew i would be home the next day, but baby was a messy eater so i had to change her. oh and bibs, whether you bf or not. my babies have been very messy eaters

vict17 · 27/01/2005 12:36

sorry nailpolish but I really hate it when people use mobile phones in hospitals (that's what the girl next to me was being so loud doing). It's really irresponsible because it interferes with hospital equipment

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 12:37

i changed my towel every time i went to the loo and disp. pants every 2nd time, sometimes more

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 12:38

hi vic yes i know im a nurse but this wasnt near any equipment that would be affected

sorry if i annoyed you

starlover · 27/01/2005 12:38

~now going off to pack more of everything into her many bags~

bundle · 27/01/2005 12:40

we had to cut toes off dd1's babygro, she was so long. so do pack a 3 mth plus one just in case..or one without feet, but then take socks.

misdee · 27/01/2005 12:41

dh was told last hospital stay that he could use his phone if its a new one and only in the day room.

Lucycat · 27/01/2005 12:41

vict - I could never work out if mobile phones are soooo terrible, then why is the roof at the maternity unit at our hospital COVERED with mobile phone masts that are so strong they stop your car alarm from working in the carpark!!

misdee · 27/01/2005 12:41

bundle, dd2 didnt git her baby grows either, so this time i have packed nighties and socks for baby.

vict17 · 27/01/2005 12:42

nailpolish you didn't annoy me and you probably know far more about it than me if you're a nurse!!

bundle · 27/01/2005 12:42

aw how cute. dd1 was in a hospital nightie for the first day of her life outside...

vict17 · 27/01/2005 12:43

lucycat - I see your point. I guess I just see the signs that say no mobile phones because of hospital eqipment and am paranoid of doing anything that would hurt someone. But I know absolutely nothing about it!!

nailpolish · 27/01/2005 12:44

vic

im sorry anyway

lowcalCOD · 27/01/2005 12:45

no never had one
waste of time and money imo

lowcalCOD · 27/01/2005 12:46

oh and i did take ear ;plugs
thought it wasa myth about the phones thing and machinery - for eg they let theat bloke in iraq hear his baby beibg birn didnt they?

scotlou · 27/01/2005 12:47

Oh yes - definitely take bibs and tissues! And a pen to sign up for the wonderful hospital food! By the way - ask someone to bring you in chilled fruit salad - with the heat of maternity wards I found that really nice. And if you're anything like me - lots to snack on when your having to bf in the middle of the night.

misdee · 27/01/2005 12:48

cartons of juice. always handy.

and a little bit of chocolate.

starlover · 27/01/2005 12:48

i remember my dp saying he had read something about it just being a precaution really, and that the vast majority of equipment won't be affected at all...
i guess they have to cover themselves.

No me neither vict, it's just one of those weird things!! I didn't take mine when I had DD1 cos of the signs but when DD2 was born, it was very useful to tell dh not to come in and take me home yet as there were no doctors on the unit to discharge me! Love the choc raisins idea - I could just eat some now - for anaemia of course

vict17 · 27/01/2005 12:50

I guess if it was really a serious threat then they would search people!! Hmmm... love chocolate raisins all year round!!
