It’s a metal covered book detailing the history of 501 jeans
i I can’t find anything about it online at all.
anyone seen one before?
I assumed it was a giveaway as a limited edition thing but I’ve looked on eBay etc, done a reverse search etc and nothings come up?
any thoughts?

What is on the first and back page? Does it have any kind of attribution like an ISBN or an author or copyright notice or even a date?

twiddlingthumbs69 · 26/03/2026 20:31

Nope has nothing. No isbn number/date etc Inside is a history of 501’s 16 pages.

Where did it come from? How did you get it?

If it's got no information at all and you can't find anything similar anywhere but it's a book I'm wondering if it is a fake. Like a piece of tat manufactured to add authenticity to fake jeans? Or fake collectible.

Another thing to look at is how old do you think it is? Can you post a picture of a page of it so we can see some text or printing style? Does it have any images in it? If there is a mismatch, could suggest its not genuine.

Past a certain point, you'd expect a book to have a copyright notice on it and attribution. That has marked the 501 on the front as a registered trademark so it is odd to have nothing in relation to the text unless it looks very vintage inside.

Travellators · 26/03/2026 20:45

Looks like 501 was first registered as a TM in 1989 and filed in 1988.

I found it whilst clearing out my brothers house. Years ago one of his girlfriends used to work for Levi’s so I’m wondering if it was an in house thing. Levi’s did do a campaign in the early 2000 called Levi’s unbuttoned so could also have been a promo thing. The inside is a mixture of the history and photos. I just find it very odd that nothing is online at all

>>>I found it whilst clearing out my brothers house.

That sounds like you may have suffered a bereavement if so sorry for your loss.

It agree with you that it is odd there is nothing at all anywhere because normally the most obscure stuff will be somewhere these days. If his gf used to work for Levis maybe it was a sample promo item that they never went with or was never used. That's more likely than an internal thing because if they were given to employees in any numbers, then you'd expect at least one to have made it on to the internet somewhere.

It makes it less likely it was a fake because of the gf unless she worked in their legal team. The reason I suggested that as theory was because of the total absence of internet record. If companies find counterfeits then they get orders to have them destroyed in bulk so it made me wonder if that was it.

Maybe you've found an extremely rare Levi's collectable that will make you a fortune. Next stop Antiques Road show?

twiddlingthumbs69 · 26/03/2026 21:19

@Travellators yes my brother died recently so still very raw.

Ha! Wouldn’t that be nice if it’s a long lost one off that the world has been searching for.

I think you’re right, think it’s an internal thing that never got off the ground. Thanks for your thoughts x

My condolences. bereavement is a special kind of horror.

You could contact Levis to see if they know anything about it
