1940's outfit

I'm going on a murder mystery event and need to dress 1940's.

Any ideas as to a good outfit for a tall size 14 muddled aged woman

My mums coming too, she's 86yo so ideas for her welcomed too....

Hmmm for period costume, the main thing is to replicate the silhouette. Is it early or late 1940’s? That will inform how your skirt is shaped- narrow to the knees, or wider. A blouse and a cardigan, some pearls, hair in victory rolls and red lipstick -
is it more casual or do you want evening attire?

Last time I had to do this I went Lauren Bacall: wide, black trousers, sequin jacket from a charity shop and a beret.
