We have R reg Scenic which is falling to bits and we must replace it. JUst need a 2nd hand car the same size as the Scenic and can only spend about £5K so model will be 5 or 6 years old. Any recommendations? (or anyone selling?!)

My Scenic is 5 years old, and I've never had any problems with it atall, so could recommend buyingone which is 5 years old.

BecauseImWorthIt · 15/06/2008 22:54

I used to have a Scenic and now have a Zafira. We bought our Zafira from the leasing company (was my company car) and paid just over £8k 4 years ago. It's Y reg, so you ought to be able to get one this old easily for the money you have. Ours has just short of 65,000 miles on the clock.

I like it. It's a big car but drives like a car rather than a van, compared to some people carriers.

zippitippitoes · 15/06/2008 22:58

loads of room inside and huge boot and headroom good engine higher up than averagfe

can sit three adsults comfortably in back

get turbo then excellent acceleration

can do 95 cruising where allowed obvs without being shaken to bits

reliable

nice and light onside and great all round visibility

easy to drive good manouevrability

zippitippitoes · 15/06/2008 22:59

AAAH !! At last another Doblo fan!
Aren't they brilliant?
I love mine, so spacious, massive boot and cheap to run and insure.
Highly recommended by me too.

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 16/06/2008 18:41

vw sharan/ford galaxy - same vehicle different badge. Love love love my sharan. I have had loads(and I mean loads) of cars and just adore this one. Go for the diesel version if you can find one as petrols are juicy.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/06/2008 18:42

Picasso is fab - we're on our second - reliable and comfy, nice and high up

popsycal · 16/06/2008 18:44

watches quietly,...as we need to do similar

VaginaShmergina · 16/06/2008 18:47

Me too popsycal, we have a S reg Seat Alhambra, road tax will be outrageous in years to come so good time to change, thinking Picasso or an estate even.

I love the Alhambra tho and is even cheaper version of the galaxy/sharan.

Would love the Citroen C4 but not getting away from people carrier then.

We need one to fit 3 kids across the back
baby seat
child seat
and high backed booster

but dont want to pay outraGEOUS road tax......

3girlies · 16/06/2008 18:55

Get a Doblo, we needed to fit 3 seats the same, it was the only one that did it. Mine costs only £200 per year insurance too. Boot is brilliant, can fit 3 pushchairs in - I should know, I need to hide them from DH somewhere!

popsycal · 16/06/2008 18:55

oh that sounds very promising.......
not thought of that one
three pushchairs????lol

Nemoandthefishes · 16/06/2008 18:56

I replaced my r reg scenic last year with a 5k 03 reg zafira and I love it, its practical and fits the trios car seats in also spare boot seats means like today can offer friend with 2 children a lift. only thing would say is try to get one with 3 full seatbelts on back seats

Picasso, anyday, hands down!! I love my picasso, it has/does everything I want/need it to. I had the same car seat senario as you after dc3, but now have two full britax car seats and a backed booster with no troubles, plenty of room.

Polgara2 · 16/06/2008 19:04

Just bought a Picasso - about a month ago and so far it's been fab! Used to have a Scenic which was ok for years and then all of a sudden just kept going wrong and letting us down. Friends have had newer Scenics and had lots of problems with them. So tried lots of types at one of those car supermarkets and only one which was roomy, had good visibility and didn't have either silly handbrakes, silly pedastal things in the way of the back seat etc etc was the Picasso.

VaginaShmergina · 16/06/2008 19:22

Can I just be really pathetic for a mo and say I'm fussy bout colour, am loving the metalic pale gold picasso and the metalic purple/grey one.....

Does colour bother anybody else ?

Hobnobfanatic · 16/06/2008 19:23

I would NEVER buy another Scenic. I have one, and it is costing a fortune with so many repairs. Admittedly it's old, but the inlaws had one new and sold it after 2 years as it was riddled with problems. Ditto partner's car. My garage mechanic is always begging me to get rid of it and says Toyota or Honda are best.

Good luck!

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/06/2008 19:24

yes, colour would bother me - ours is a nice metallic grey

Madamejaffa · 16/06/2008 19:28

My picasso is mattalic grey too... another good thing about the Picasso is that the rear seats are individual seats, you can take one out if ever needed just like most 7 seater people carriers. Was useful for collecting some large sheets of ply.

I have an Alhamba too, I like it, but it is a tank!!

VaginaShmergina · 16/06/2008 19:34

Hi JB, that is you isn't it ?

I love my Alhambra as I said but the road tax is meant to be going up to somewhere around £700 a year on people carriers so we cannot justify having those two seats in the back for the occassional child we have extra or family outings really.

Need to be reasonably high up and good visibility as DD suffered with travel sickness pre-Alhambra and now doesn't as she is high up.

Moomin how many seats does the scenic have, isit the Scenic Grand that is the people carrier? is the boot big ?

coolkat · 16/06/2008 19:52

Another vote for the picasso, friend has one with young twins and 5 year old, three car seats in the back no problem. Mines been abused though as done the house up and done to many tip runs!! Would love a new one
