I appear to have temporarily misplaced both my imagination and my inspiration, so I’m outsourcing the creativity!
In a few months I hit the glamorous milestone of 40 (how did that happen?!), and a few weeks later we celebrate 10 years of marriage. I’d love to mark both properly — separately — but my ideas cupboard is bare.
In a moment of bold optimism, I booked Las Vegas. Because obviously two people who are delighted to be in pyjamas by 10pm and actively avoid large crowds should go to the city that never sleeps. On reflection… perhaps not my finest decision. The long flight, the chaos, the noise — none of it screams “us.” I’ll lose a small deposit if we cancel, but I’m leaning towards chalking it up as an enthusiastic but misguided life choice.
We’ve got a week off and about £4k to spend. We’ve done lots of city breaks, seen plenty of West End shows, and spa weekends don’t really excite us.
I love the idea of a big party. In theory, fabulous. In reality? I find mingling exhausting and then spend the next six months replaying every conversation and convincing myself everyone thought it was awful (despite zero evidence). Emotional hangover > actual hangover.
So… what would you do? How would you celebrate 40 and 10 years in a way that feels special, memorable, and ideally doesn’t require a recovery period measured in quarters?
All inspired suggestions gratefully received! 😊

Doing the NC 500 in Scotland, either staying at BnBs or hiring a motorhome.

Buying a lovely piece of original art.

Staying at The Ritz in London.

Following. We are in a similar position - 10th wedding anniversary and husband turning 40 (during school summer holidays) who wants to "do something for turning 40 but doesn't know what"... excellent!
