Solid gold earrings?

I had my ears pierced when I was 16 and I'm now 51, but lately my ears hurt when I wear earrings and they go a little crusty around the holes. I wore some silver ones yesterday and today my ears hurt a little and are crusty around the hole. Because of this I often go months without wearing any, which in itself isn't great as I have to really push earrings through.

I've always had an allergic reaction to some metals, for instance I can't wear glasses with metal bits on my nose as it causes my skin to blister, and I'm the same with fashion earrings. They have always caused my ears to itch and feel sore. But now, even with silver they are playing up.

I would ideally like to put in a pair of earrings and keep them in for a while. Something comfy that I can sleep in. But every time I look online for sleeper earring they always seem to be gold plated. I'm thinking I need solid gold. Has anyone any recommendations for every day gold earrings I can sleep in and wear day in / day out for months at a time?

Try titanium.

I have sold white gold and they go like this too. You are supposed to take earrings out once a week and clean them and the piercing, even if you have had it done years (mine have been done over 40 years)

Could you try hypoallergenic earrings like below? If you google hypoallergenic it comes up with lots of sites......might have a look myself! 😀

This happened to me, I tried 9 carat gold earrings and same problem.
Happened upon a pair of vintage 14 carat rolled gold earrings and I've never had a problem with those, in fact they've become pretty much the only pair I wear. It's a bit boring but I didn't want my piercings to close. (14 carat pure gold would probably work too but are out of budget)

I think that there just isn't enough actual gold in 9 carat, they are only 375 parts gold out of 1000, 14 carat seemed to tip the balance for me.
Rolled gold is a type of plating seldom seen in modern jewellery, they manually roll the base metal in a thin sheet of gold rather than electroplate it which only leaves a very very thin coating of gold on the base metal.

Etsy and Ebay probably would be your friend here. Leverback is my preferred style, I sleep in them quite regularly.

Edited: typos

I really didn't know you could buy hypoallergenic earrings. I have done a google search and bought 3 pairs of small and simple ones. Thank you everyone for your input.

I used a company called Lisa Angel - and I got 10% off as a new customer. Just thought I would mention it incase anyone else fancied a butchers.

titanium is definitely less allergenic and quite cheap

I also have sensitive ears and find it hard to buy earrings but Titanium has been great for me and hasn't caused any flare ups. Solid Gold can be risky as it contains other metals and the gold content isn't high enough especially 9k.
I bought some titanium earrings from crystal heaven london and they've been amazing!
