Reccy for DAB Radio

My 15+ year old DAB finally died on me, and I need an easy to use replacement. Needs to be touchscreen on the front and not on the top of the unit as it'll sit on the kitchen windowsill over the sink where I can reach it okay. (Soz, for all the explaining, but as a short-arse, don't want knobs on the top.)

There's too much choice out there and my mind's blown. I do hate it when I have to buy something new. Reaise there's internet ones but not sure if that'll benefit me or not, but quite liking the Spotify function.

Thanks.

If you have an iPad or similar, why don’t you just put a stand for that on the windowsill or use Alexa?

I'm surprised Radios haven't been consigned to the history books to be honest. I just thought everyone listened to the radio on their phones these days.

@LoserWinner I don't have iPad/Alexa.

@Heyhelga Why would I want to listen to the tinny radio on my phone for when an actual radio will do the job better?

Get a smart speaker (£50 ish) and operate it by speaking to it.

How much do you want to spend? Is Spotify functionality a deal breaker? I prefer the volume/power/sound quality/bass of a decent stand alone radio in the kitchen so have always had Roberts or Pure, but I've never wanted Spotify. The noise from the extractor hood, kettle and microwave easily drown out a lot of small radios. I've recently upgraded my 30 year old Roberts to a Ruark R2 MK4 which at £479 is just about as expensive as you can get (unless you buy the even bigger Ruarks). Have a look through the Richer Sounds stock here:

I also had a very early Roberts internet radio (where they shut off the system that contained the list of all the internet radio stations) so although the radio still worked, the system (internet servers) the internet radio relied on, had been switched off so I was without internet radio for a couple of years. Then I discovered that my old Roberts DAB needed to be updated if I wanted to get the newest DAB+ stations - specifically BBC Radio 3 Unwind - getting the Ruark got me DAB+ (now pretty standard for DAB radios although there aren't many DAB+ only stations TBH) and an internet radio. There are however plenty of DAB+ radios in the range £50-£150 - if I were you I ring the nearest Richer Sounds - the people there are always helpful and you'll struggle to get better prices anywhere - not Amazon, not John Lewis.

I second Ruark, they’re way better than the Roberts ones I’ve had. Ours is 10 years old and still going strong

I can recommend Richer Sounds - we had to replace our old Roberts DAB , and ended up with Pure one . Mine sits on the top of a cupboard in the kitchen , so I got one with a remote . It was IIRC about £90
