Question about car seats and newborn weight

Hi, has anyone heard that not all group 0 car seats are suitable for smaller newborns? I bought a travel system for dd that included the car seat that was described as 'from birth' DD was 6lbs and I felt she didn't look comfortable in it until she was a lot bigger. I was looking around a baby shop today and I spoke to an assistant about the seat I had. She said that seat is only suitable for babies over 7lb. I read all the stuff that came with the seat when we got it and didn't see any mention of this. Shouldn't this be clearly stated on the seat? I'm now expecting my second child and am definitely going to by a new seat.

My friend has had two smallish babies and has had this problem (both Jane chairs). Not sure what you can do about it though other then get recommendations from people that have had smaller babies. I never had the prob with Maxi Cosi but my baby was 8lb 1 so not much help.

What car seat is it? I would always go off what the manufacturer says not what someone in a shop says.

When we were shopping for our second child we were again buying a graco and the advice given by a very young girl at mothercare was laughable. Not that inaccurate that it would be a saftey issue but they don't know everything.

We were recommended the maxi cosi a friend who had her baby 10 weeks early had one on recommendation from SCBU, her baby was 4.5lb when they went home!
Our DD was 5lb 3 when we came home and she was fine!

Thanks for the replies. The girl in the store also recommended the Maxi-cosi. The seat I had was the Graco Auto baby. I see they have brought out a new one called the Logico that might be better.

When my DD was days old we went to get a new seat for her brother. The car seat expert took one look at my dd and said she is too small for that seat. IIRC it was a britax rock a tot. He asked how much she weighed and when I told him he said actually she was fine weight wise but she looked a lot smaller than she weighed. We went back the next day and got another seat for her as there had been advances and this new seat had more safety protection. She was 6lb 14 at birth.

Hi notabanana, what was the new seat that you got for your dd?

It was the Graco autobaby. She is 4 now so there might be better seats available.
