The kettle I never knew I needed?

This is some hard core adulting that I'm doing here, but I've got a voucher for Christmas and I think I want to spend it on a new kettle!

I've seen some fancy looking smart kettles, temperature monitoring ones, glass kettles, colour changing ones.
What do I need in a kettle these days?
What will make me happy? 😂

Tell me about the amazing kettles you have and why I should get it!

Should add that the voucher is only £20 but tbh I'm not adverse to spending a fair chunk on a nice one, our current kettle is about 10 years old!

A concealed element is my top priority.
Oh, and I like a flippy up lid rather than one you have to take right off.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/01/2026 22:33

Are you in a hard or soft water area?

Soft water - lucky for my cups of tea!

Our kettle has a hole in the lid for refilling as well as coming off, very useful when making Sunday dinner and kettle needs boiling more than once. No need to wait for it to cool to remove the lid!

SomeEsotericJoke · 04/01/2026 22:36

I got one from amazon that boils to specific temperatures (from 40-100 degrees) and will keep the water at that temp until you tell it not to! It means I can make my coffees at the perfect temperature in the morning. Also useful for hot water bottles. It was only about £20, a brand called Bear.

Today I’ve learned there are kettles you have to wait to cool before removing the lid?!

We have a ninja kettle, DH bought it on offer and honestly I thought he was being ridiculous and that it was a crazy amount to spend on a kettle.
I love it.
it has settings for different types of hot drinks, makes the best cups of tea and has a keep hot function so when I'm making a drink and something comes up (which seems like every time I boil the kettle with a 2yo) then I can just press it and it keeps it boiling hot rather than having to wait on it boiling again.

I’ve just bought a new glass one (Cosori brand) which looks nice and boils well, but it pours horribly!

We have the ninja one… DP was sceptical.. we both love it. I’m a massive pain for putting kettle and re-boiling. Not any more 🤣

NormaNormalPants · 04/01/2026 23:13

We have the ninja one after our fancy sage one died a week outside of warranty 🤦🏽‍♀️ we love it!

Nancylancy · 04/01/2026 23:59

My sister has the ninja... It sounds like a good shout with a few recommendations.
I do like the idea of a glass one, they do look really nice especially the light up ones. Pouring ability is key though. Don't want any spillages!

I'm also interested If there's any smart kettles with an app to turn it on and off... So I can be super lazy and put the kettle on to boil while I'm still in bed so it's boiled for my morning brew by the time I come downstairs! Or I can set it to boil when I'm nearly home from work... Ahh living the dream 😂 I don't think the ninja does this though... Does it?

We got a WeeKett kettle, it’s ok but the smart thing wears off after a while.

Love my Smeg! 7 years strong, if it dies, I’ll buy another!

greengreengrass3 · 05/01/2026 00:10

Ninja here had my last one for about 3 years until DH dropped it on the floor, immediately replaced with the identical model

TheTruthHurtsSometimes · 05/01/2026 00:18

We love our ninja kettle! Wouldn't be without it now

bananafishbones1 · 05/01/2026 00:25

We have a swan Alexa smart kettle i can lie in bed or sit on the sofa and tell Alexa to turn the kettle on. Set it for certain temps etc and was only £38.
