Best scooter for a poor balancing 5 year old DD to use on school run?

I know this topic has been done over and over but none of the archives relate to 5 and a half year olds.

We're moving house soon and our walk to school will increase to 1.3 miles. I haven't been able to fathom a way to cycle with DD1 5.6 and DD2 2.8 so until DD1 is ready to ride her bike safely by herslef (maybe in ayear's time?) we need to walk or drive.

I'd rather not drive. DD1 has always been a whinger where walking is concerned. I think she'd happily scoot to school. She got a 2 wheel inline scooter last year but really she can't balance on it and scooting along probably uses up far more energy than walking. She gives up after awhile and I have to fold it and carry it.

Should I get a 3 wheeled scooter and if so what type is good - in terms of safety, style, stability - for an older child?

Should we persevere with the 2 wheeled scooter? Set out on a mission to have her riding a two-wheel bike by September?

She's not showing signs of being close to balancing but then doesn't currently get a lot of practice.

We've got this one in blue for dd1. She had it when she was 4 and has just turned 5. She's really confident now, and most importantly, the blue one looks pretty similar to the 2 wheeled scooter so she doesn't feel too babyish. Also the handle bar goes quite high - she's only on the middle setting.

Have just bought this for 2.9 yr old dd2, but the handles are a bit low for dd1.
