Padding coat for football mum

Hi! I’m a football mum and I desperately need a good longline coat! I’ve been hitting the snooze button on buying one because I never know what to choose — and even though it’s been quite mild, I still freeze standing outside on the sideline 🥶🤣🙈.

I’ve been scrolling Vinted all day trying to find the perfect coat and it’s doing my head in. I don’t want something like a Canada Goose, Moncler (too expensive), but I also don’t want something that feels super cheap. I think I prefer a duck down-filled coat — happy to pay more if it’s worth it — but I guess other fillings can be warm too?

I just want a decent quality brand that keeps you warm without being overpriced. I’m not into Uniqlo, Barbour, Michael Kors, etc. — too many options!

Is there a go-to brand for a good football mum coat that I’m just not aware of?

My sweaty Betty nimbus sees me through football and rugby mum duties. It comes up
big- I’m an 8 and need the XXS and my mum is a 12 and wears an S.

I have a Craghoppers long padded coat and it is super warm.

Bambi1609 · 14/12/2025 15:34

Oodie jacket! (I know, I had the same reaction, but it is so warm and cosy, swear by it for games)
The massive pockets are another bonus for them.

You’ll need waterproof too? I have a Landsend Squall coat for when it’s cold AND wet. It’s the best!
when it’s cold and dry- I switch it up between the landsend down filled long puffer and a Uniqlo one.

SSea · 14/12/2025 15:41

Dryrobe! Ignore what it’s designed for and embrace how good and warm it is!

MrsTee23 · 14/12/2025 15:45

Trespass Audrey is my go to- long, warm and waterproof! I also team it with a heated gilet for colder days. I’m outside watching different children’s sports most days and these have been a life saver. I also have a dry robe but with it not being as tight I find it doesn’t keep me as warm.

I’ve got a Fjallraven Nuuk parka for this. It’s heavy but warm and waterproof- lots of down stuff isn’t waterproof which is why I’ve gone for a non down option. It’s ace. I spent the whole of last season being freezing but picked this up in a sale over the summer and I’ve been toasty so far this season.

The North Face, honestly mine is so warm and completely waterproof. I got a plain blcak long line parka style one (not the short puffas that are popular with teens). They are built for the weather!

Thank you everyone! I decided to go forLandsend! But will keep an eye on others mentioned in here for the future!

Boy mum of 3 and football mum of 20+ years here -hence my username. I've tried every single brand known to man. You won't beat a Jack Wolf skin coat, be sure to get one with a hood. Have a look on vinted. Also invest in a good pair of leather gloves and ugg wellies (size up to get thick socks on with these). The only other that even came close was a craghoppers, which was warm, but not waterproof. Thankfully, my youngest child has chosen martial arts for his sport so it's indoors for him, but even the gym is cold in winter!

1stWorldProblems · 14/12/2025 16:30

Dry Robe or Lands End (who are Canadian so understand cold weather coats)

Confessionsofa40yrold · 15/12/2025 05:37

Dry robe all day long. I bought a cheaper version from Mountain Warehouse for winter dog walks and it’s a game changer.

AreYouShittingMe · 15/12/2025 07:45

Have a look on Vinted for Didrikson- I’ve had two over the 15 plus years of watching grassroots football. Warm and dry.
My other tip is shoes with a thick sole, to stop the cold getting in that way. I got some walking boots from TK Maxx that were a game changer!

Thursday5pmisginoclock · 15/12/2025 08:32

Second a Didrikson coat. My waterproof 3/4 length is the most practical ever and hands down beats several Barbours I’ve had.

floppybit · 15/12/2025 10:21

M&S Feather and down stormware padded duvet coat - this is a great alternative to the Arket version which is nearly twice the price.

MumAgainAt41 · 15/12/2025 22:46

I have a waterproof long north face coat and a dry robe. I tend to alternate between the two.
