Interview help

zebedeeboingboing · 09/12/2025 21:35

I have an interview for a research role at a university.

What on earth do I wear?

I am late 40s and size 10 to 12.

Don’t want to look like an old fuddy duddy!

Help me please!

In my experience, dress codes are usually pretty relaxed at Universities.

My friend has been interviewed, and also interviews others in his normal dress of jeans and a shirt or jumper.

That said, I would always err on the side of risking being a bit 'overdressed' for any interview or anywhere I was being assessed, rather than have the slightest risk of misjudging the situation and appearing too casual.

This is where a classic pair of black trousers comes in. The can look smart but don't look too fancy even if everyone else were in jeans.

What do you normally wear??

A smartish version of that I'd say

You aren't old but if you are worried you've lost your style mojo get over to the style and beauty thread, it's up their street - explain a bit more about your general look and what you think you might like when you do

@RecordBreakers@theunbreakablecleopatrajones

Thank you both, slightly overdressed is the vibe I want!!

Have taken advice and posted on Style & Beauty too, with a bit more detail!

Cheers, once again!
