2-seater sports cars that you can get a child seat into (airbag will need to be able to be turned off?)

DH wants to swap the sports car he has as our second car for one which he can actually take ds (3) out in. The one we have at the moment (and before anyone accuses me of being flash it is knackered, dented and worth not very much!!)
can't really take a child seat safely as it has bucket seats and you can't turn the airbag off.

Anyone got ideas of a sports car, ideally a convertible that would fit the bill?

I love the VW Eos but dh thinks it might be a tad too saloon-like (we have a sensible main car!)

I've got this Merc sell a child seat for it I believe. Or look at www.theroadster.net for sales of child seats etc.

Audi TT

Mazda RX8. Not convertible though. Seats 4 too!

Lotus Elise. At least, you could definitely fit a Stage 1 carseat in; never tried it with anything bigger.

mrshedge · 08/06/2008 10:25

Thanks everyone.
Elise is the most likely to do it for dh of those mentioned so far- what's the situation with the front passenger airbag? Can it be turned off or is there not one to start with?

I think only the new elises have front airbags at all. i remember when my dh wanted one i said no because of the no airbag situation iirc (correct me if i'm wrong!)

PortAndLemon · 08/06/2008 18:24

The original-model Elises don't have airbags to begin with. And you must be ble to pick those up relatively cheaply now.

Have started a new thread on this asking for z4 owners as dh has decided that's the most likely runner...

Renault Megane? The saloon coupe convertible version, not the 'wobbly bottom' one.

A friend of mine has one and we managed to fit 2 child seats in it very easily.

Some issues with reliability though (par for the course perhaps with a Renault).

PestoMonster · 09/06/2008 13:19

Another vote for the Audi TT here. We can easily get all four of us in it.

mrshedge · 09/06/2008 13:21

Pesto is that the coupe though - I'd like a convertible.

Now pondering whether a 2 seater is a stupid idea as if dh and I want to go out alone in it without ds then we will be having to take the car seat in and out a lot. Whereas with a 4 seater we can just leave it in the back.

Will look at the Megane Muffin.

I still like the Eos but because I don't think it's been out long you can't get 2 to 3 year old ones and it's too expensive.

TVR Griffith has done my DH and DS very well - DS loves daddy's noisy car!

Furball · 09/06/2008 14:13

audi TT do do a convertable - but afaik the convertable is only a 2 seater

mrshedge · 09/06/2008 14:16

It is a 2 seater Furball.
TVR would be fab - I love them.
