Tesco online groceries - ?alternative options

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas to throw in.

I have shopped with Tesco online delivery services for many years. I choose them because I find the interface easy, they have a few items that I am not sure I can get elsewhere and also they have the option to add a note to each item (e.g. long eat by date please).

Also I could get hardware items like printer paper or party balloons in with my grocery order. They have now changed this and such things are there but they are available through a third party seller with a long delay and of course expensive postage (when I am already paying a delivery charge).

I was going to shop around a bit and see what I could find from other supermarket grocery delivery sites, but thought I might try the "shortcut" of mumsnet in case anyone uses another site and can advise at all whether similar changes have happened there.

Thank you for your help with this.

When you search for things like printer paper or balloons there's a filter at the top, untick marketplace and it will show you the things in store only

I started online grocery shopping during Covid and was using Waitrose and Ocado at that time.

They both provide the things you mention above but I just have a subscription to Ocado now. I don't think I've ever had a substitution item from them and I'm pretty happy with their range of products.

Amazon for printer paper and balloons and lots of other non-food things.

Literally any supermarket does online groceries. Get non food stuff from George, Amazon, Ryman… you must surely know some shop names other than Tesco right?!

Thank you - that is very helpful - I will look for that.

Thank you. Yes - I do use these as well, but liked the idea of reducing the mileage/pollution by trying to get things under one delivery. I do live very rurally.

I only found the filter slider for Tesco marketplace last week and it has saved loads of time. I do a mix of Tesco and Ocado ao I can get pretty much all the thinga we need across both.

I also use the filter when shopping online with Tesco as it’s better than having to sift through Marketplace, although to be fair, most of the time the Marketplace items are at the end of the Tesco things. I used Marketplace a lot when it first came out as delivery was free if you have a Delivery Saver Plan but they soon stopped that! I have still bought a few things, recently got some new pillows, and they were free delivery as I ordered about the minimum cost.

I use Amazon a lot too but sometimes I can’t be bothered going through all the choices you get when you search, sometimes less choice suits me better. I don’t have Amazon Prime, I’m too mean to buy the subscription as I don’t want their TV package but I tend to keep a running list of items in my basket ( only order things that come direct from Amazon with free postage over a certain limit) and only place the order when it hits free postage! If it’s something urgent. I’ll be cheeky and get my sister to order it for me, she has my address saved to her account!

I need to add that I have mobility issues and have a disabled parking badge so going into shops is very difficult for me.

I too have mobility problems as well as being in the middle of nowhere.

I am struggling to find this filter on the Tesco site - I will not give up!

The filter tab is highlighted in blue on the left hand side when you are looking at the different choices you are selecting - I’ve attached a photo but I think it might need to be uploaded.

That is very kind of you.

I have now tried this and unfortunately searching for printer paper and making sure market place is unchecked still brings up solely outside traders selling.

I guess they must just have stopped selling it with the online grocery order.

Thank you for your help though.

I don’t do online very often but when I do I use Ocado - not the cheapest but I like the ranges and I buy a fair bit of M&S , so suits me - they also have the best salad and fruit and veg stuff I’ve bought online - very fresh and lasts - some of their own brand stuff was really good too

SoManyDandelions · 23/10/2025 10:11

It might depend on location. I can still get printer paper which isn't from Market Place...
