Its a very well known brand so I thought it ok to buy two light sweaters from them. Unfortunately (no info on the website) they are Chinese and returns are difficult costly and their policy is designed to make it as difficult as possible. The garments are of very poor quality and I wanted to return them and get a full refund. After a good deal of correspondence and various offers, I finally got a returns label with a Chinese address and the the information that it will cost me at least £50 to return these garments. I am complaining to trading standards, and hope to get some recompense for this but I wanted to warn you that you buy from these people are your own risk

The headquarters are in Manchester.

dementedpixie · 30/09/2025 16:49

They are part of Simply Be. Ive always had no issues with returns and theyve always gone to a UK address. What on earth have you ordered that's going back to China?

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 30/09/2025 16:49

I've bought loads from there over the years, never had an issue with quailty or returns. Confused

RandomGeocache · 30/09/2025 16:50

Really?

Have you bought from one of those lookie likey Chinese scam sites which is pretending to be something it's not? Thinking you are buying ex-sale stock or similar?

LaurelBush · 30/09/2025 16:52

I don't think you bought from JD Williams, OP.

Toomanywaterbottles · 30/09/2025 16:53

They’re not Chinese. They’ve been based in Manchester for years and have a very normal returns policy, not involving China.

Ticktockwatchclock · 30/09/2025 16:54

Are you sure you actually dealt with J D Williams and not a fake site you came across in a search.
There is a clear returns policy on their website.
What is your return policy?
28 day return period
We hope you love your order, but if not, you can return it back to our warehouse within 28 days of delivery.

And returns are free!

DaisyChain505 · 30/09/2025 17:03

You’re not using the correct site OP.

LittleGreenDragons · 30/09/2025 17:11

Agree with the others, sorry OP. Can you go back to the original website and have a close look at their url?

Scarriff · 30/09/2025 17:53

I ordered two light sweaters . Should have no difficulty right? Took about a month to arrive, and are of poor quality. I emailed asking for a returns label and finally got one with an address in China. I was surprised indeed. There are a long list of instructions about the returns. photos, labels etc and the news that there will be further customs charges when the parcel arrives in China. On the advice of Trading Standards Ive written to the Head office in Manchester, asking them for a refund. But Im fairly sure that the correspondence and the return label sent has originated in China.

But it looks you didn’t buy from JD Williams, so they won’t be able to help.

Protosaber · 30/09/2025 18:01

I do t think you bought from jd williams op so im not sure what you expect them to do?

spanieleyes · 30/09/2025 18:02

There was a similar issue with ordering from Roman recently. I’m sure there was a thread where people were using a link on Facebook which looked exactly like the actual Roman website, same clothes, prices etc, but that too was actually a Chinese scam site. Same issues with quality and returns.

Memorable · 30/09/2025 18:02

I just ordered from them but the paperwork said the dresses were Simply Be. Quality was fine. The returns were straightforward also.

The usual bugbear though, the dresses were shorter than I wanted. I took a chance but even so, it’s soo annoying because they don’t include the lengths in the description. I think it’s necessary info when you’re buying online. I won’t order dresses again from them

Blushingm · 30/09/2025 18:11

Sounds as if you’ve been scammed by a look a like website

LimeBasilandManderin · 30/09/2025 18:14

Yep agree with PP it’s a scammy one. I use them and I certainly do not return stuff to China. Can you post any photos of emails/paperwork?

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 30/09/2025 18:15

Definitely was not JD Williams . My friend works there in head offices in Manchester.
They won't beable to do anything... they never send or accept anything to do with China.
There is a site on Facebook selling footwear calling itself Clarks with a different logo.. nothing to do with Clarks UK.. but a Chinese company like Shein etc.
Looks like you've been scammed I'm sorry to say.

Scarriff · 30/09/2025 18:35

Thank you for your replies. Scammed then. Wow. I didn't think of that, but I did suspect the emails encouraging me not to return were not from England. I can post a selection of the email if Mumsnet allow.
