My current sofa has had it.

I'm looking for a 2 seater and a three seater (not a corner sofa). Requirements as follows:

  • There are two heavy adults in my household, so we need strong sofas
  • we have cats so they need to be fairly scratch and stain resistant
  • I want them to last well (current sofa is 16 years old - I like furniture that lasts. Sadly the place I bought it from is long gone
  • I'm not looking for cheap, but I also don't want to have to remortgage the house to buy a sofa!
  • they must be comfortable! And also not really low - we want to be able to stand up easily!

All sofa or retailer suggestions gratefully received! Google isn't being super helpful, so personal recommendations appreciated.

Duresta sofas would meet your criteria. They are sold in Furniture Village and independent furniture shops ( you can normally get good discounts from the list price). That are really well built and meet all your criteria. My previous Duresta sofas lasted over 20 years and my current Duresta sofas still look great after 10 years.

Thank you both, those suggestions both look great!

Just had a google and both companies are owned by the same group. They make G plan sofas too.

Collins & Hayes. We have 2seater and 3 seater that are 30 yrs old. They still make the model and we recently bought new covers. The frame is solid seasoned oak. They have a deep seat so great for tall people, and the 3 seater is 6’5” ish between the arms so DH and DS can lie flat on it. This was DH’s only requirement and it took me a while to find a manufacturer that did big sofas. Hopefully they will last another 20yrs at least.

They keep the patterns for their popular collections so you can order replacement covers years after. Alternatively you can order extra sets of covers in washable fabrics so you can keep them looking tidy.
Our last set were washed about once every 2 years but eventually started to get a bit threadbear when DS was early teens. I waited until he’d stopped tipping drinks and food all over them then had new ones. Although I have protective covers on the big sofa since DH is no better and the dog is a cheeky bugger who often sneaks an afternoon nap on the small sofa.
We need a new carpet but it will take me a while to decide on the colour and I’m waiting for patterned carpets to make a comeback because they are so much better at hiding dog hair and wear and tear. Although I am tempted by synthetic easy to clean carpets I prefer natural fibres.

Debenhams always has a huge range and a lot under 3k which seems to be the going rate for most 4 seaters. Worth a look online.
