Wedding RECEPTION attire?

I can't seem to get this one right.

Dress like you're attending the whole day? - feels overdressed for 'an evening guest only' and try-hard.
Dress like you're on a night out? - feels overdressed (too casual/clubby).

Any tips from MNers? Off to one tomorrow night and starting to panic!

I would wear what you’d wear out to a meal or party. Don’t turn up in wedding ceremony attire with a hat or fascinator. Depending on the venue and style of the wedding/ the couple will give you an idea. Stately home- dress in a more sophisticated way. Upstairs at a pub you can be more relaxed. I would avoid clubby though.
