Desperate Help needed! Gift by next Tuesday - up to £40 but nice!

Help needed please. I'm not a shopper but I need to get a nice gift for my boss by next Tuesday. She's already got a bigger gift from our wider team/other bosses but the folk that share the office with her (just a few of us) wanted to get her something to give her on her last day. Flowers are a given but that will leave me with about £40. She already got a Kate Spade bag and a silver bracelet and is getting champagne from someone. She's lovely, very particular about her looks and what she wears. Food is out due to a few conditions/allergies. She's due to go travelling so I was thinking maybe a nice travel type make up bag or sunglass case maybe?

I know it's now a bit last minute but there aren't many shops where I live so I was banking on picking something up when I was in Edinburgh yesterday but I only had an hour and basically really only managed John Lewis and didn't see anything - I'm really rubbish :(

Any suggestions or brands or other things that might suit?

Maybe a branded, multi-pocket toiletry bag. I got one for my friend and she really liked it.

TwinTantrums · 10/07/2025 17:25

One of the flat lay co bags? Or the bags they sell on cult beauty that zip up to be rectangular

Willowskyblue · 10/07/2025 17:26

Something from the White Company sale perhaps - a nice candle or make up bag?

Rina66 · 10/07/2025 17:35

If you’re getting her jewellery, she must like it, so maybe a travel jewellery case?

BigBoysDontCry · 10/07/2025 17:41

thanks everyone, that is all along the lines I was thinking. Are there brands that would be considered naff for a lady in her 50s? (but with a young outlook). We are the same age but i'm more a "shove stuff in my pockets" type person rather than a "ooh, that's a lovely bag" type person. I saw some on Victoria's secret but was unsure about the brand. I'm really clueless!

Will look at White company and lay flat company. i did some some of the lay flat co ones come up but the colours/patterns seemed unsuitable.

Aspinall have a sale on at the moment . Merlot coloured or racing green passport dover £40 , pale pink small jewellery travel case £47 handbag tidy £42 - here's the link anyway.
Sending because if you can get something in the Sale she's getting more of a present than the £40 might otherwise buy IYSWIM. as long as you think she'll like it. But of course there's postage - I think express delivery 1 2 days so you just have time.

Do you mean travelling as in backpacking around the world? O suspect she may have a lot of kit already if she's been planning it a while. But how about packing cubes?

BigBoysDontCry · 10/07/2025 17:49

No, not backpacking, going to Australia and the far east visiting friends etc. I will be checking in for more ideas and searching later but I might go a bit quiet for a while as I'm expecting some friends round for dinner soon and I really must go and prep some food. Tell me I might have ADHD without telling me I might have ADHD... 😂

this bad is lovely. Cult beauty tend to do good edits too of travel sized toiletries etc., if you know what she’s into. Alternatively, if you know her allergens, an allergen free treat always goes down really well with my friends. It shows you listen and care.

I love Elizabeth Scarlett’s jewellery/make-up bags/wash bags etc. personally. If she is travelling then a nice matching passport cover and luggage tags set might be nice? Or a nice travel journal type notebook maybe?

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 10/07/2025 18:21

For long trips I love my snoozeband with built in headphones.

BigBoysDontCry · 10/07/2025 22:43

Thanks all, my guests are now away. I ordered the Cult beauty bag linked above by @TwinTantrums - thank you for that and for all your lovely suggestions. I popped a few travel size bits from there to make it up to the value and hopefully she likes it all.

We do share a fair bit about treats and diets as she is celiac and lactose intolerant and I am insulin resistant so I also follow a strict diet - there is often a cross over with things like chickpea crackers - we live the high life! We are probably both ingredients people rather than buying stuff ready made so she'd be more likely to appreciate some nice eggs or salmon than a gluten free brownie or something.

Thanks again.

Christ that’s a ridiculous price for a toiletry bag. I’ve seen cult beauty do good value bags and boxes with products inside but £22 for a bag???

BigBoysDontCry · 10/07/2025 22:47

I agree that I wouldn't pay that for one for myself but I think the lady in question will like it and hopefully last her forever. I tend to pop my stuff in a zip lock bag and hope for the best....

That's actually quite reasonable compared to some I've seen.
