What's Gmail, or is that the point?

Its an invite only email account

gmail is like hotmail - it's a newish thing created by google and it's invite only. It's fine if you want a new webbrowser and has a fairly big inbox and organises the emails in converstions - so an email is sorted and viewed along with all replies to it. You don't delete emails or file them you just have a huge inbox and the facility to search for whatever email you want - a bit like a google search.

It's ok - nothing too special - but OK.
