Clothes steamer

I have no experience with clothes steamers but hate ironing with a vengeance! Therefore wanted to ask those of you in the know for some advice:

  1. Is using a clothes steamer as effective as ironing?
  2. Will it work on more creased items (eg. linen trousers and cotton shirts)?
  3. What kind of price range should I realistically be looking at to get a decent product?
  4. Is there a particular brand or model you’d recommend?

A friend bought one and it was almost useless, slow and didn't work.

Ask the same question from the charity shop staff who use them to sanitise & de-crease clothing.
I expect the staff in Next & Zara and ….
also use them. Just ask.

I have one,its good for sanitising and removing odor from lightly used clothing. I say for linens it might be shite as I have seen my partner spending a lot of time to smooth out a linen mix shirt. It would have been faster to plug in iron for that case. It works for lightly crinkled stuff, I also use it on pillow covers or duvets .only thing bothers me is that usually the water tank is tiny only good enough for one item at a time.I might take it for holiday as it folds.
