Extremely wide fit trainers for a boy

Right, desperate mum here, utterly fed up with the trainer situation for my five-year-old. He's got proper wide feet with a high instep, and honestly, it's a nightmare finding anything that fits.

We've been through loads of brands over the years – Skechers, Gola, Clarks – but they all seem to be either far too narrow or can't handle his passion for kicking random things on the pavement or scooting and just fall apart after a few weeks. The Gola Harrier was the best for durability, but even going up a size, it was still ridiculously narrow.

So, please, does anyone know of any brands or specific models that do genuinely wide-fit trainers? I'm at my wits' end.

We get the Adidas ones from Sports Direct.

We had Clarks h width trainers in the one style they ever had when he was little, tbf we didn’t have any problems with them falling apart though. After that the best ones we found were karrimor sports direct trainers, and Nike revolution ones.
He’s in fully adult sizes now and when you get to that point I’d recommend Fitville (buy on Amazon as their website ships from the us) and Skechers extra wide arch fit.

@Fifi80 they were just wide as standard. We used to trail to a specialist childrens shoe shop who stocked brands like Ricosta which were just wide and high by default. We def got trainers, school shoes were another issue as his first school were so prescriptive on what they could wear. Once in adult sizes he wore Dr Marten service shoes (no yellow stitching so acceptable) to school which were incredibly hard wearing and fitted his feet beautifully

My son also has wide feet, we have found hitec trainers fit him the best and now just buy the same style a size up when he needs new ones.

My DS has ridiculously wide feet and high insteps. He spent his entire childhood in Nike flex road runners. I have attached an image but they seem to take a while to appear now.

They have a wide stretchy elastic across the top, rather than Velcro or laces (my DS could never get enough Velcro over his instep.) Added bonus is that they are really easy to pop on and off for little ones.

He’s finally in a size 6 at 14 so can no longer get them. He can only wear wide New Balance now.

Daughter is the same. Startrite do the job. They are pricier but last really well in my experience. They have a measuring guide on their website and you can often find their shoes on independent shop websites on sale once you find the right fit.
