Vinted returns help

Hi, can someone tell me if this is correct?
First time buying on Vinted, a shirt for my husband. It’s faulty. As in the buttons and button holes do not line up so you are left with unsightly bulges. I’ve messaged the seller who says he had never noticed when he tried it on( yeah right) and suggested I put a lot of pins in it. Anyway he has agreed to a refund but the cost of the return is mine. He says that is standard Vinted policy but it seems unfair I’m going to be out of pocket by £4 when it’s hardly my fault.
has anyone come across this? It’s putting me off buying anything else as sellers could send anything and there’s no come back to them?

Have you gone through Vinted to see what they say? It's not as described presumably.

POTC · 05/06/2025 23:38

Yes, standard policy on vinted

adonbilivit · 06/06/2025 07:03

Vinted no help at all, they say it’s between the buyer and seller to agree the shipping, I just think people should be aware of this, I certainly wasn’t!

You can dispute. I’ve never paid for the shipping t return on Vinted if the item was not as described. How much did you pay for it?

Doggymummar · 06/06/2025 07:36

I am a big seller on VINTED and I wouldn't accept a return I would just refund and leave you to sell on, charity shop it etc.

adonbilivit · 06/06/2025 08:23

I suggested to the seller that he just refunded me but he wouldn’t have it.
i raised a dispute with Vinted but they say I have agreed to their terms and conditions which state that the buyer must pay return postage on faulty goods.
I did not pay a lot for the shirt and my husband thinks I should just throw it away but it was the principle that I was surprised by.
I mean stick a load of dirty old tee shirts on there for £2 each, ok some will get returned at no penalty to yourself but some folk won’t bother as the return cost is more than the refund so you will get your £2 !
I was really looking forward to using Vinted as a platform but this has really put me off!!

I think the seller has to agree to cover the cost of the return. On the handful of occasions that I have had problems with an item they have either agreed or just cancelled the whole sale.

Does the seller have a good track record?

megacat · 06/06/2025 19:53

This is correct I’m afraid, usually the seller will just refund or cover the cost but that’s only ever as a gesture of goodwill.

Yup unfortunately true. I had that with an idiot that sent my 2x lampshades and lamps in a black rubbish sack with no protection so arrived smashed to pieces. Sent vinted pics and just been told tough luck return if you want a refund

Surely it depends on the item. If it was a £50 item would you really just refund and not get it returned?

Oceangrey · 06/06/2025 20:04

One of several reasons I prefer eBay.

stopringingme · 06/06/2025 20:07

@adonbilivit the seller can cover the cost of the return but it is their choice and they are not obliged to, they have to choose this option when requesting the return and cannot do it after.

If it is cheap I would keep it and leave accurate and honest feedback - but if you do be prepared for the seller to also leave some, you cannot leave feedback if you return the item.

If you do return make sure you send it back as you received it, you cannot return it if you have removed labels, worn it or washed it, also include the original packaging. I take loads of photos also and send back in a box as per vinteds T&Cs, as the seller can raise an issue when they get the item back if it is not as it was sent.

Screenshot all messages as they can be deleted.

Might be worth reading through the buying/selling information pages in the help centre section on the app.

It's urgent that you press, I have a problem button, I have been caught out too many times contacting the seller who said they would deal with it and didn't, push I have a problem before it's too late.

Thank you for that information, it’s really helpful. I didn’t realise I couldn’t review if I had returned it.
yes I was careful to send it all back perfectly and take plenty of photos.
apart from goodwill there is no reason at all for a seller to pay postage is there?
I agree with the other poster I’m going to stick with eBay in future!
