Dd2 broke the switch on our kettle last night. It could not have come at a worse time financially, we are absolutely brassic.

Have been trawling through ebay a bit and they all seem to be about £25, £30. Is that about right for a kettle (seems quite a lot, but it is years since I bought one)

If I'm going to be spending that kind of money, I want a bloody good one. Any recommendations?

Tbh, anything that plugs in will be better than the old pan on the hob set up we have at the moment (and my cuppa tastes of pan!) but I may as well get one that's going to last...

Just had a look on Argos site - had one for - they ranged from 99.99 (!) to 4.99 and everything in between.

We bought a new one a few months ago, which did really well in the Which? report, but iirc it was about £50 (but far better than our previous £70 one ). I'll ask dh later for the review - he may have even turned it into a pdf for my parents, so if he has then I can mail you the full report if you tell me your email addy.

£4.50

don't get stainless steel if you have hard water, ours developed a leak in the spout join, cost £££ too.

got a cheapo wollies one until we could afford a nicer one and so far it's lasted years

Tortington · 21/05/2008 08:19

6.50

super custy.

I can't look at the argos ones - it won't let me view them... something to do with cookes, but as I'm not on a windows computer, I don't know how to change the settings.

would you keep linking me to them? please? The cheap tesco one is out of stock and asda won't deliver here, so the more the merrier at the moment.

Tortington · 21/05/2008 08:37

you can ivite me for a brew.

i dont eat children or anything...just biscuits

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2008 08:38

Squonk - I have just bought that £4.60 Argos basic one. It boils water. It is quiet.

It works.

is fine.

Previous to this one I had some fancy number, which inevitably got all lime scaled and collapsed. I expect this one to have a similar life span unless I start descaling.

It is fine. £4.60 - bargain!

NoBiggy · 21/05/2008 08:45

If you invest in a water filter and only use filtered water in the kettle you can prolong the kettle's life by years.

fryalot · 21/05/2008 09:47

super! thanks very much.

I shall pop over to ARgos at weekend and buy the four quid one.

I will even buy some biscuits for you, custy
