What are your recommendations. Le creuset are really pricey even second hand.
Any other suggestions as to where to get cheaper alternatives?

Have you looked on Amazon? They frequently do half-price or less on Le Creuset (especially the discontinued colours, such as pale blue)- just sign up for their updates on kitchenware and you will se them. This of course assumes you are not in a hurry to get them, but I thought I'd let you know nevertheless- for us it has worked really well and over the last six months we have acquired a full set for about 40% of the shop price.

thank you i will do.
no I am not in a hurry but I certainly cannot afford full price for them sadly.
Really what I would love is a good sized casserole dish to start with

IKEA now sell castiron pots! Not exactly cheap, but a third of the cost of LC. Seconding Amazon, and also if you're okay with 2nd hand run a search on Ebay for some, see what comes up locally.

Yes to IKEA, but also if you're going to France or know anyone who is, cast iron cookware is very cheap in their supermarkets - I got a huge one for about £17 a few years ago.

Another thing to think about is a good porcelain dish, which will also work very well in a Rayburn - if you can get to Worcester, the china factory there sells seconds (plain white) amazinly cheap.

thanks for that. i sadly dont know anyone going to france.
Will check out the white porcelain.
