I’m starting today. I am self confessed shopaholic. I spend more time buying books than reading them. I have too many clothes that I can’t decide on what to wear. I have a bottle of perfume for every mood but still searching for the perfect one. I need to stop buying what I don’t need & start enjoying the things I have. There was a time when I had no disposable income & I was really grateful & appreciated every single thing that I had. I need to get back to that frame of mind. Is anyone with me?

Well done. Hope it goes well.

Have you set your rules? I.e. what you’re allowed to buy. I have a friend who did this and she had clear exclusions which helped her to achieve it overall.

Yes, I’m banning myself from all clothes, shoes, perfumes & books. I’m allowing myself skincare products but only what needs replacing. That’s great it worked for your friend.

My friend also had exclusions for underwear and tights.
I have done no books since January with one blip but I am considering expanding… thanks for the inspo.

Actually underwear & tights would also be included in this. Well done on no books, it’s very hard.

Not to try and tempt you with buying a book but the year of less by cait Flanders is a really good read and will probably motivate you.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 25/04/2025 13:54

So you’re allowed underwear, tights, anything else? Subscriptions eg National Trust? Exhibitions (within reason)?

I may or may not join in once the nitty gritty of the rules is worked on a bit 😆.

So you're curbing the frivolous personal 'fun' want rather than need spending? That's a great idea! I tried it, lasted about 4 months and saved loads of money. It helped me to listen and watch content on minimalism and saving money because there's nobody in my IRL life who could keep me on track or motivate me, being immersed with a like minded online community helped. I think it would help if you have an end goal for why you're doing it. I was curious so when I felt I experienced it enough there was nothing further motivating me to carry on.

Due to my financial situation I’ve not brought anything new since January sells… I’m not planning on buying anything until money situation changes….
