Period Swimwear- does it work??

I am looking into purchasing period wear for beach/pool but I can’t imagine how this would work. If they are super absorbent would they not just absorb the water? Will they actually keep menstrual blood contained?
imagines wild scenarios being chased by sharks in the ocean or having people looking horrified at the pool as you leave a trail of blood in your wake😆

anyone with experience with these &
using them on (very) heavy flow days?

I use modibodi and wuka swimwear. They're fine for my regular to light days. On heavier days, I would put them on to swim for an hour max but wouldn't lounge in them. (I use heavy reusable pants and need to change twice a day on heavy days for reference).

I love them! They sort of make a bit of a vacuum 🙈 hard to explain but they do work!

Yes they work. I tried on heavy flow days but changed after swimming rather than lounging in them. However, I imagine they would have been fine. I just didn't think I'd relax whilst lounging in them. No leaks at all. Saved my holiday! For your own peace of mind try them in the bath first and you'll see they work perfectly fine. I think I have Wuka ones. I wore black bikini swimwear pants under my normal swimming costume. I've not used them for a more athletic swim (like lane swimming), just on holiday for a splash about.

They are fine for going in the water but I probably wouldn't lounge around after for long.

I got some for my teen DD so she can still do her swimming lessons when on her period. Yes they work and she usually wears them under a normal swimsuit so nobody knows.
I think on heavy days or a whole day at the pool/beach you would need 2 pairs though so you can change half way, or double up with a tampon/cup

Thanks everyone I will definitely give them a go

Can I ask what style of swimming costume you wore over the period pants? I’m struggling to find swimwear that hides the period bikini pants, I’ve also got wukka ones! Thank you x

Just a normal costume but not high leg. Tbh I probably have a bit of VPL but I'm not bothered about it. You could get a whole bikini/swimming costume from Wuka if you want to avoid VPL?
