I've got a Silver Cross but it couldn't be described as budget.

get a bugaboo frog off ebay. Can get for under £200 and theyvhold their value. Bloody great for bumps.

How olds your baby? I used a Jane Matrix as a carrycot/sits up too when ds was 12 months and he still had room. Could look at Nurse Dakar, Powertrack or Slalom with the Matrix seat. You'd have a good fwd facing 3 wheeler too then when older. I guess it depends what budget is too!

Quinny freestyle 3xl - not sure how widely available it is in the uk but I've had excellent experiences with www.kidsroom.de and they deliver throughout europe. Have ordered from them three times (we live in sweden) and it's always arrived within a week.

Whichever you go for, I suggest that you make sure all tyres (front and back) are air filled for a smooth ride over bumpy terrain (quinny buzz for example wouldn't fit the bill in this case).

I have an Emmaljunga that I bought on eBay for £100. They are £5-600 in the shops so I was very pleased and it is great. Big basket under, can go forward facing or rear facing, easy to swop around. It is heavy though so if you have to put it in the car, it might be a bad option.
