Car Seat for a 6mo.

Can anyone recommend a car seat for my 6mo DD, we have a silver cross ventura plus. DD is still within the correct weight for the car seat, but she is so long and she is starting to look uncomfortable in it.

Does she still need a rear facing one?

Think the advice is to keep them in a rear-facing one for as long as possible as it's safer. If she's too big for it though and happy sitting up maybe you could try a forward facing one.

I'd go to mothercare and get them to talk you through it. We did that before getting our first car seat and thought the sales staff were brilliant in terms of information and there was no pressure to buy.

you should only move your lo out of the rear facing seat once they have exceeded 20lbs and can sit unaided for at least 20/30 minutes. I would have thought 6 months was a bit early to move to forward facing as they still dont have the best neck control and could suffer neck damage in the event of a crash (if they are rear facing and you crashed then their head is pushed into the back of the seat but if they are forward facing their head moves forward with nothing to restrain it). They are only too big for the current seat if their head is over the headrest as it is ok for their legs to come over the front of the seat. More info here

hi i watched a video on utube that had been put on by an other member last week in a car seat discussion as i have a very large 6 mo dd as well, after seeing the crash tests i will not be putting her in a forward facing one for a very long time
