My ds is 3 months, he still sleeps soundly in his MB carry cot, but when he is awake he cries until he is carried, does this mean he's ready for the change? He can't sit up yet, when can they? When did your lo leave the carry cot and how did you know?

can't tell you for your MB but for us we switched from a carry cot to a pushchair at about 16 weeks when the boys were really interested in being awake.

sorry just want to add that we still used the carrycot if we were out and about at nap time for another couple of months after that.

TheBlonde · 07/05/2008 09:56

they can go in the pushchair from birth can't they?
so I guess it is up to you

I'd say 3 or 4 months is ok.
But for long trips when you want him to sleep then put the carry cot back on

MrsBadger · 07/05/2008 10:00

we didn't switch till dd was 7m and started hanging out of the carrycot trying to see where she was going

but from about 3m we propped her up against the folded-down hood (you can use a blanket or something behind him) so she could see more of what was going on

thank you wise mns

Not sure about the MB but ds was in the carrycot in our pram until about 4-5 months and very occasionaly after that for as long as he fitted if we were out and I knew he was going to sleep.
Our carrycot did have a bit that sat him up a bit though which did help he would be propped up a bit. He was too small at that point to fit comfortably in the harness on the pushchair seat at that time still.

hi! we've just moved dd into the buggy bit at 21wks - she seems ok in it size-wise etc (and she's a titcher) but in the reclined position she can't actually see out much more than she could in the carrycot (that was why we decided to try swapping her, but it on that count it isn't all that much different). she was the same, happy asleep in the carrycot but not awake. i would say she is marginally more content awake in the buggy, but we still have the odd stupid time of having to carry a crying baby and push an empty pram

she sleeps just as soundly in it as she seemed to in the carrycot. it opens up a whole world of dilemnas re sun protection/covers though...i'd actually logged on to post a query re just that!

my 2 were great in carrycot until 4 months, then grumpy when awake but still fitted fine for naps...i used the sling a lot with dd between 4 and 6 months

then about 6 months used pushchair part, sitting up and both WAY happier

shame as the carrycot is so cute and i'd have liked to have used it for longer

Caz10 · 07/05/2008 20:23

do you think the 4-6mth stage is just a bit awkward then?

agree, every time she's in the sling she's been v content, just my back that suffers!
