I cannot wear heels - I had an accident years ago on my knee and it is too painful (and I am tall so was never a massive fan). Compounding this I have rather broad feet and bunionettes (same as bunions but on the little toe side) and corns in between my toes. Despite sounding as though I am ready for the knackers yard I am actually fairly fit for my age (60) and like to stay fashionable whilst not looking like 'mutton dressed as lamb'! Anyway, I do like brands like Whistles, Hobbs, Reiss (usually get them second hand or in the sale) and stuff from Fat Face, M&S etc for casual. I wear ankle boots a lot as I am usually casual and out dog walking in my jeans but I am struggling to know what the heck to wear with a nice dress other than boots (and sandals in the summer which are less of a challenge!) Send help😂

White leather trainers are on trend at the moment with dresses, ones like these: Palazzo: White Leather - White Trainers for Bunions | Sole Bliss (which are made for wide feet and bunions but still look fashionable!) similarly ballet flats are back in fashion Wide Fit Black Suede Buckle Strap Flats – Sargasso and Grey
Edit: Have just seen that the bunions are on your little toe side, so you might find the wide fit section helpful instead of the bunion specific one!

Personally I don't think white trainers for this time of the year work. I like the flat black shoes though. Unusual.

TinkerTailorSoldier · 18/12/2024 21:53

Boat shoes in leather are super comfortable. I used to have a pair of Chatham boaters, the best I've ever worn. I've been in flip-flops, sandals and trainers for the last few years, but I'm going to go looking for a new pair next year.
I also really like the Gabor range of leather slip-ons.

Hotter and padded. Cums and Merrell. Decathlon, Gabor

Leather white trainers have not been on trend since Summer 2020

Air & Grace.

My mum likes Pavers, gets all her shoes there.

soupfiend · 18/12/2024 22:02

Sole Bliss, got 6 pairs of their shoes/trainers

TwigletsAndRadishes · 18/12/2024 22:09

I'm so glad you started this thread, I was seriously going to do exactly the same today, for all the same reasons!

I love my winter boots but sometimes I just wish I had some great shoes (not sandals) and that I can actually walk in without breaking my neck. I don't want very prim court shoes that look like office wear and neither do I want anything too chunky or clompy, like Dr Marten loafers.

SereneCapybara · 18/12/2024 22:15

M&S have some silver wide fit ballet pumps which might be nice for feeling glam around the house over Christmas.

Hotter do some fairly classic low heeled court shoes.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 18/12/2024 22:19

Cums and Merrell doesn't return a result. Is it one company, or is it a company called Cums and also another one called Merrell? I tried just googling Cums. That was interesting, but not quite I was in the market for. 😁

Air & Grace.

I have wide feet and Airs & Graces were too narrow for me. Unless they now do a wide fit range?

Oh dear, they're still very popular around here! 😅

MagdaLenor · 18/12/2024 22:47

Genuinely, I haven't seen people wear white leather trainers for a few years. It's either colourful ones, or black shoes and boots with a very exaggerated thick sole. DMs are very popular. I tend to wear loafers or Mary Janes. Most recently bought from Clarks (I'm mid 60s)

I wouldn’t say white trainers were on trend because apparently they aren’t but people of all ages were still very much wearing them in these parts over the summer. Maybe people just don’t really care what they ‘should’ be wearing…..

Superhotpoet · 19/12/2024 06:14

I have just ordered a pair of the sole bliss white leather trainers for my holiday, thank you for the link!

CookieMonster28 · 19/12/2024 06:15

Don't think you can go wrong with m&s, a lot on trend.

I often see nice shoes in there when I pass through!

I agree. Wear what you want. However, it does sound like the OP wants to go for what's "on trend", which is perfectly fine. That's the advice folks are giving.

You're right! They're really comfortable!
I got a pair of trainers dark green/black which are just bliss to wear.

Try Hotter. I particularly like their waterproof ankle boots that are made in gortex so have all the benefits of being waterproof and breathable but in a normal looking ankle boot - I’ve had several pairs over the years but my favourites were the ones in purple suede and the ones in red leather (albeit that were waterproof/breathable) but this year the colours are not quite as fun (so worth checking every season to see if there’s anything a bit different that you like!).

You can get them in normal and wide fittings and they are crazy comfortable - I’ve just put them on and worn them, no need to wear them in, no blisters or pains getting used to them. And then they last for years. Plus even with the suede ones, because they are waterproof even if they do get muddy you can just rinse them under the tap, and leave them to dry somewhere warm, not hot/direct heat, and they are good to go looking like new again.

Hotter waterproof boots - I would have called these pixie boots back in the day out maybe just ankle boots now - they have others that are waterproof and a bit chunkier like biker boots and others that are similar but not waterproof but cheaper. I’ve had the cheaper ones too which are fine and comfy but I just like the convenience of having ankle boots that look like a load of other boots but that I done have to worry about being caught out in the rain in!

They have a sale in at the moment and there are also some nice ‘normal’ shoes, sandals and trainers that are worth checking out. In the spring they usually have a very comfy Mary Jane type shoe in assorted colours that you can wear barefoot that I see lots of people wearing. Some styles even go to extra wide. Definitely worth a browse!
