I cannot wear heels - I had an accident years ago on my knee and it is too painful (and I am tall so was never a massive fan). Compounding this I have rather broad feet and bunionettes (same as bunions but on the little toe side) and corns in between my toes. Despite sounding as though I am ready for the knackers yard I am actually fairly fit for my age (60) and like to stay fashionable whilst not looking like 'mutton dressed as lamb'! Anyway, I do like brands like Whistles, Hobbs, Reiss (usually get them second hand or in the sale) and stuff from Fat Face, M&S etc for casual. I wear ankle boots a lot as I am usually casual and out dog walking in my jeans but I am struggling to know what the heck to wear with a nice dress other than boots (and sandals in the summer which are less of a challenge!) Send help😂

This. I wear what I like. I don’t know or care what I’m “supposed” to wear. I don’t know whether other people are on trend either.

I have more important things to think about.

And you should by all means continue doing that, but the OP asked specifically for options that were on trend, and that style of white leather trainer has been dead in the water for at least four years.

I'm also 60. With plantar Fasciitis & I get corns between my toes. Painful & really annoying. I've bought a couple of pairs Joya shoes. They do a wide fit & are just the most comfortable shoes ever The ones with the Senso soles are good for knee issues. All other shoes are now really uncomfortable.

Secondly Have you tried speaking to a specialist podiatrist? Custom made insoles might help support your feet & knees.

Most Fitflops have the wobble sole and will not be suitable for knee issues. In fact they aggravated my knee issues several years ago.

You've solved the wanky or spunky? conundrum. I was too scared to search.

Leather white trainers have not been on trend since Summer 2020

Especially not with dresses. Colourful trainers with wide leg trousers. I like the blog Wears My Money for inspiration.

sorry Chums, they are strictly for older ladies. Merrell are very good just trainers nice wide toe bed

Ah, that explains it. I hope my husband doesn't look at my search history and wonder if I am having some sort of wild mid life crisis involving internet porn.

Wow thanks to everyone for the suggestions - I have been so busy with Christmassy stuff only just checked in so sorry! Glad to hear I am not the only person with this conundrum. @Mary28 I spend a lot of time in Spain but Spanish women must have small feet 'cos I can rarely get my size (8) but i will have a look next time I am there.

I've never been able to buy shoes in SPain, Portugal or Italy - size 43 here.
Netherlands & Germany are good for women with big feet.

I have no idea if they are fashionable or not, but Gabor do extremely comfy and very pretty ballet flats.

abracabarbara · 20/12/2024 19:58

For me, Fitflop and Fly London.
Supercomfy and I can reliably buy online.

Katesboots · 20/12/2024 20:02

Russell & Bromley are always very comfortable straightaway. Never ever have to be broken in

Katesboots · 20/12/2024 20:04

I should add to my previous post that the comfiest trainers I have ever had are Ons.

I find embassy lace up Boots really comfortable and some designs are quite dressy so can be worn with dresses. Adidas Gazelles are very wide toes and very comfortable too. Have you tried going up a size in lace up shoes - works for my Mum and her bunions.

I'm another that buys all my shoes and boots from Pavers. Doesn't have the trendiest image but I've always been able to find footwear that suits me and looks good on me, and most importantly, my feet aren't in agony like they used to be.
They do a bigger range than I suspect many people realise.
