I cannot wear heels - I had an accident years ago on my knee and it is too painful (and I am tall so was never a massive fan). Compounding this I have rather broad feet and bunionettes (same as bunions but on the little toe side) and corns in between my toes. Despite sounding as though I am ready for the knackers yard I am actually fairly fit for my age (60) and like to stay fashionable whilst not looking like 'mutton dressed as lamb'! Anyway, I do like brands like Whistles, Hobbs, Reiss (usually get them second hand or in the sale) and stuff from Fat Face, M&S etc for casual. I wear ankle boots a lot as I am usually casual and out dog walking in my jeans but I am struggling to know what the heck to wear with a nice dress other than boots (and sandals in the summer which are less of a challenge!) Send help😂

I really like those Hotter boots, thanks @wibdib

MerelyPlaying · 19/12/2024 07:22

I’m not really on trend - no idea what’s fashionable, I just wear what I like! I have wide feet, and quite a few problems including needing to wear orthoses, and the ones that work for me are:
Hotter
Josef Seibel
Fly London
and Moshulu - just bought my first ever pair of Moshulu boots and I’ve been able to wear them straight out of the box, no problems.

mitogoshigg · 19/12/2024 07:26

DM's or better still British made alternatives are a good option and last. Otherwise M&S wide fit is your friend. I have M&S loafers that are super comfortable smart enough for most events then two pairs of Clark's heels for the rare occasions I feel the need

mitogoshigg · 19/12/2024 07:27

As for white trainers - not in winter surely Grin. But nothing wrong with black ones, I have merrells though. Come the summer white trainers will be everywhere again.

Whatisittomorrow · 19/12/2024 07:31

Vivaia. I have a pair of their long boots with a heel and they are very comfy

RedRiverShore5 · 19/12/2024 07:43

I find a brand that suits my feet and stick with them especially having to buy online, at least they might fit then. I usually buy Josef Seibel as they suit my size 41, slightly wide foot with high instep, they also put zips on their boots so I can easily get them on, if you have a high instep no zip can be a problem.

ladygindiva · 19/12/2024 07:48

Bit of a cliche and I know they get a lot of hate but I really rate Clarks for their comfiness and attractiveness especially if you're a half size or wide footed ( I'm both of these).

Hotter and padded. Cums and Merrell. Decathlon, Gabor

Some of those sound a bit too sexy

MayaPinion · 19/12/2024 09:18

Dr Martens Adrian loafers look great with everything and are super comfortable. I’m on my second pair and they last about 3 years each with frequent wear. Break in time was minimal.

KirstenBlest · 19/12/2024 09:23

I haven't a hope of loafers fitting my feet, and I'm not that keen on them.

Thinhair88 · 19/12/2024 09:31

Same here. I now wear a low wedge shoe as I find that more stable or some low heeled ankle boots which look nice with a dress and thick tights. Next have some wide fit, They have a lot of brands like Clark’s online so you can order quite a few and return them easily. I’m a fan of a strap , so a Mary Jane.

62 and I do not do boring, marketed at 'older' clientele footwear or clothing come to that! Through sport, I've damaged both knees, stretched ligaments in foot and am flat footed - It is not just the make of the shoe that matters, but the style and how it holds the foot. I have Gabor, Romika, Peter Kaiser, Russell & Bromley.... (to name a few, I've just been shoe shamed and have 61 pairs) and it is the style, as well as the shape of the sole construction, padding, that makes a difference for me. Peter Kaiser does some very nice suede shoes and I have a very good, navy blue with a twist, pair and I like my shoes to be interesting, so I'd recommend just browing the ranges, as all of those I've mentioned do wide fitting too, something else I need in a shoe! I've also learned that just like clothing, it does not pay to try on far and wide and experiment with styles, as the most surprising are often the nicest on.

TanyaLoves · 19/12/2024 09:57

I like solebliss.com too. Very comfy for bunions

Mary28 · 19/12/2024 11:17

Have a look at Wonders shoes. They're a Spanish brand but are quite wide and very comfortable and light. They do a huge range of styles.
I like Nero Giardaini for boots with block heels that are comfortable to walk in but they are heavy and I wouldn't wear them all day. I wear their boots a lot with skirts/dresses for going out. Their runners look nice but I don't find them comfortable to be honest despite being wide enough.
Ecco are very good too if you can find a style you like and Fitflop runners are also very comfortable and wide enough for me (I think I'm a H width with high insteps but I've no bunions).

itsalwaysthesame · 19/12/2024 11:35

Heavenly feet are good, come up very wide but don't think they do half sizes, sole bliss are too narrow for my feet.
Yesterday I tried Clarkes, yours, H&M, next, M&S, shoe zone - they now stock sole bliss & heavenly feet, still couldn't find a shoe or ankle boot that didn't either cramp my feet or slosh around in, I'm seriously considering contacting a shoe maker!

I wouldn’t say white trainers were on trend because apparently they aren’t but people of all ages were still very much wearing them in these parts over the summer. Maybe people just don’t really care what they ‘should’ be wearing…..

This. I wear what I like. I don’t know or care what I’m “supposed” to wear. I don’t know whether other people are on trend either.

I have more important things to think about.

localhere · 19/12/2024 13:45

Barefoot shoes have moved on a lot since the weird five toe shoe days. Try a site called happylittlesoles.co.uk they stock loads of different brands. I wear trainers from there (as they don't squash my feet) and have just ordered some ankle boots for winter from them by a company called Shapen

DianaRiggsCatsuit · 19/12/2024 15:07

Fitflop shoes, boots, trainers and slippers are so comfortable.

JadeSeahorse · 19/12/2024 15:09

My mum likes Pavers, gets all her shoes there.

I would second this as so do I.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 19/12/2024 17:03

I've just ordered some shoes from Esska. They are pricy, but exactly the sort of thing I've been hunting for, for so long. Thanks to whoever it was that posted the link to their website!

Parratha · 19/12/2024 18:14

Those Esska shoes are lovely.

I'm sorry, but I haven't ever seen a decent Hotter shoe/boot.

viques · 19/12/2024 18:16

Try fitflop. Very comfortable!

Cums and Merrell doesn't return a result. Is it one company, or is it a company called Cums and also another one called Merrell? I tried just googling Cums. That was interesting, but not quite I was in the market for. 😁

sorry Chums, they are strictly for older ladies. Merrell are very good just trainers nice wide toe bed
