Hi
I want to buy my friend some chocolates to go with her Christmas gift but she has coeliac disease so they must be gluten free.

Can anyone recommend some please that I can get at a supermarket?
I think I’ve left it too late to order online.

As far as I know, the boxes of Thorntons are all gf.....Lindt are NOT.

Booja Booja truffles are delicious. I've seen them in Waitrose and bigger supermarket branches.

You need to check the labels to make sure it doesn't say that it's been produced in a factory with wheat/barley to avoid cross contamination. Booja Booja state "gluten free" on the box.

Most chocolates are gluten free but avoid lidnt.

To be honest just look at the ingredients, any allergies are highlighted in bold so avoid barley wheat, rye and oats ( unless specifically gf oats)

My favourite chocolates are cadburys milk tray

Actually, a lot of Lindt chocolate is safe for coeliacs. Some of it contains barley, but at safe levels for coeliacs. I'll see if I can find a list...

I know this because my son has coeliac and is able to eat some of the Lindt chocolates.

Not hotel Chocolat!

Becky Excell has a list glutenfreecuppatea.co.uk/2023/12/17/gluten-free-christmas-chocolates-guide-2023/

M&S have gluten free biscuits in lovely tins shaped like houses if that's any help also x

handmademitlove · 09/12/2024 17:34

@Caffeineneedednow cadburys are a "may contain" which can be problematic for some coeliacs. Neither of mine can eat them. But - the Cadbury chunks in a tin are weirdly gluten free - I am guessing made in a different factory!

Theunamedcat · 09/12/2024 17:35

M&S! For chocolate definitely and some cakes the Victoria sandwich is so yummy and I like the millionaire shortbread too sainsbury's do a really yummy chocolate log brownie type thing it's not too sweet nice and almondy and generally yummy

I'm gluten free if you can't tell 😂

handmademitlove · 09/12/2024 17:36

@MamaWeasel Thornton's are also often a "may contain" 😟 never used to be but changed a few years ago, same as hotel Chocolat

And Coeliac UK have a list of GF Xmas food available to download from their website. It includes lots of chocolate.

If you're near a Tesco, they usually have a good 'free-from' area where you'll find GF chocolate.

Most chocolate is not GF, sadly, or it's made in a factory with gluten, so using the 'free-from' aisle is an easy way to find safe chocolate.
