Chess set - made in UK - any recommendations?

Hi does anyone know anything about chess sets? I’d like to buy a chess set as a gift that has been made in the UK and is of a quality that would be appreciated by someone who enjoys playing chess. I have no idea what makes a good set or if such a thing as a good set exists? Google gives me prices from £35-£300. Is wooden better than marble? Is fold away worse than the boards that don’t fold? I’d like to support a UK business if possible - would that be the right thing to do or is there a specific international company that make better quality ones? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The Isle of Lewis chess set would be my first idea. Available from the British Museum gift shop probably.

Id look at Farrar & Tanner personally, you can buy boards and pieces separately
Expensive but Britain and European sourced
as PP said the Isle of Lewis set is gorgeous
I like a flat board (doesn't fold) storage in the board/ under it is nice.
I like nice wooden board, although marble topped boards in wooden surround are lovely, just heavy and expensive.
There is a nice mother of pearl board

It all depends on the person you are buying for. Do they have the sort of house that would look good with a beautiful set on display, then absolutely the Isle of Lewis set is gorgeous.

personally for home use I have a folded board with wooden, large not standard pieces and backgammon inside . I would prefer a non folding board with a standard competition set. I would also like a smaller nice travel set.
