New TV - Samsung TV Iplayer issues

Hi I’ve got a Samsung TV (2018) which Iplayer hasn’t worked for 2 years. From what I understand Samsung don’t update older models. We really want Iplayer so looking to get a new TV (although seems ridiculous when we’re otherwise happy). Would new Samsungs have same issue? Are other brands not likely to have this issue? Thanks

Are you sure this is not some sort of tech problem ? I have a ten year old Samsung TV and iPlayer works fine. Unfortunately Channel 4, ITV, Channel 5 streaming all gave up the ghost about a year ago. Built in obsolescence it seems.

I realised I should go and ask someone so went to John Lewis this afternoon they said Samsung had mucked up in negotiations with BBC and hence the lack of updates (maybe it affects certain years? 🤷‍♀️) I believe from extensive googling it isn’t solvable, ironic that you’re older model works. he said for his money he’d go with an LG and persuaded me that is the right choice. Now just deliberating between a £449 and £1099 model.

Just buy an amazon fire stick and you can have all the apps on that. Much cheaper than a new TV when you don't need one.

Agree with @LuckysDadsHat . Buy a fire stick.

We don't have a problem though ours is older.
But if we did we could watch iPlayer through Sky.

We've just done this as the iplayer app no longer functions on our tv. Got it on black Friday deal for £28 , a lot cheaper than a new tv.

@ChampagneLassie Ah what a pain ! Did they reckon the LG doesn't have the general streaming obsolescence thing.

Yes exactly. I didn’t realise this was what fire sticks do. Unfortunately I’ve sold myself on the fancy new TV now! But good to know there is an option
