Please help me find a "toybox" to go in my living room.........

it doesn't have to be an actual toybox, just anything with a lid (hinged or removable) that will fit most of the DS's toys that they have downstairs and doesn't look "childish" in the evenings once they're in bed and the toys are inside it. Probably needs to be strong enough to be sat/stood on by a quite tall 7/8yr old (and a 4/5yr old......and toddler) and preferably square - approx 90x90cm base

I have cream (well grey ) chairs, and pale yellow walls, and like wood/wicker type things.......

Oh and not too expensive please..........

TIA

We have an old wooden trunky thing we got at an auction for about £20. Any auctiony places you could check out? ours is as tough as, well, an old trunk....

FAQ · 28/04/2008 22:20

we do have an auction place in town.....don't know what it's like, quite small I think. I'd really like something I can order online as I don't drive

like this??

Could paint it.

Disenchanted · 28/04/2008 22:23

square but smaller

Disenchanted · 28/04/2008 22:24

too much?

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 28/04/2008 22:25

We are pleased with this from ikea

moondog · 28/04/2008 22:25

I've got this in red
I love it but it is ridiculously overpriced. i must have been mad.
A secong hand trunk would look cool. Go to a junk shop.

ChippyMinton · 28/04/2008 22:25

blanket box?

Disenchanted · 28/04/2008 22:27

seagrass?

LANDGIRL71 · 28/04/2008 22:27

I had the same problem - didn't want the storage downstairs to look too garish (couldn't only find garish plastic containers!!). In the end my partner made a box on wheels that goes underneath our coffee table and stained it to match the other wood in our lounge. It looks really great and we have had so many comments on it. He'd never made anything before and just worked out how to do it from looking on the net. In all the materials for it came to about £30.

Only trouble is he made such a good job I've told him I want a matching TV unit!!

FAQ · 28/04/2008 22:28

oo I like that last one Disenchanted......

just been running round my living room with a tape measure, as I've just realised the space isn't actually 90cm square .

However, I think I could get rid of H's fish tank and put one of the chairs in it's place, then put the box in the bay window......

How about this

FAQ · 28/04/2008 22:32

moondog that is lovely, but I can't justify spending that much......well I could but I shan't........initial plan was a plastic box, but then I decided I wanted something more "grown up" (and therefore more expensive)....but not that much.

Disenchanted, we have one very similar to that seagrass one in the DS's room, it used to be downstairs in our old house, but it looks really tatty (and did quite soon after we got it)........

Now I'm torn between AHM's Ikea one and Disenchanted (and Chippy's) Argos one....

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 28/04/2008 22:35

Is it to go against a wall or out in the room cos the Ikea one has a hardboard back so only works against a wall really

FAQ · 28/04/2008 22:39

it'll be against a wall (well probably infront of the TV to start with to block DS3's fingers from PS2 and Digital Box as his current "toyboxes" are......)

I agree about the seagrass one.

I have a set of three of descending rectangular size and are like a trunk with lids. Very nice and fit in with the front room decoration and hides all the toys.

LilRedWG · 29/04/2008 11:23

Can you get to an Ikea? They have loads of options there and it solved our problem in the lounge with DD's toys.

FAQ · 29/04/2008 12:22

Thanks everyone, I've ordered the Argos one that Disenchanted and Chippy linked to
