does it have 3 ful sear belts or is the middle one a lap belt?

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 08:32

3 full lapbelts.

So I thought we would be OK,

but someone said iy doesnt matter they still may not fit.

Do I have to find skinny seats?

There has to be some carseats that are less wide than others?

there have been quite a few similar posts I think Disenchanted so you might get some more info if you do a search. But i know we have a great council guy who deals with car and road safety and he has a selection of all the car seats available and is a wealth of information. Perhaps contact you local council and see if you have a similar dept/person. I was told that even if you can fit the seats in, if they are touching it compromises the safety. (Sorry not to be more positive)

Is 4 year old in high back booster or stage 2 seat still?

So you need:

(a) infant carrier, stage 2 and high back

or
(b) infant carrier and 2 x stage 2

I think (b) will be virtually impossible, sorry. Only other solution is for one seat to go on passenger seat if you can deactivate air bag.

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 08:51

You see theres no way we could afford a car ourselves to buy, so if we can't fit them in this carthen we may as well give the car back to my mum.

At the moment hes in a 5 point harness car seat.

Whats a hight back?

DOES IT HAVE 5 POINT HARNESS?

OP posts:
Hulababy · 27/04/2008 08:54

high back, sorry.

No, not generally 5 point harness. Just booster custion with back attached for side impact.

schneebly · 27/04/2008 08:54

britax freeway apparently slim

schneebly · 27/04/2008 08:56

in fact most of the britax ones seem to be claiming slim base so they might be the ones to try. You could take a trip to Halford and get one of their fitters to help you?

dizzydixies · 27/04/2008 08:56

high back is a booster seat but still with the back on it

like this

stage 2 is when you put baby into the first forward facing seat

like this

(was all a lot easier when i was a baby and my mother let me bounce about on the back seat in a cardboard box cot type thing!!)

Dropdeadfred · 27/04/2008 08:57

would you consider two seats in the back, one for the oldest child in the front passenger seat and either you or dp sitting n the back?

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 08:58

I really want him to stay in a 5 point harness TBH.

What a PITA eh?

Thanks scneebly, id have to go somewhere and piss them off by trying all the seats in the shop in to try and find a combination that fits!

DDF, I suppose that may be what we have to do,

must say Im a tad uncomftable with DS being in the front though.

And it won'tbe comfy for me on long drives

i get a group 1 group 2 and group 3 car seat in the back of reanualt clio

britax renaissance / highliner / horizon (booster)

ComeOVeneer · 27/04/2008 09:00

Sorry to sound daft, but you have the car, do you not, you have the seats so why do't you just try them in and see if they fit?

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 09:05

COV we have the car but its off road as DH doesnt drive yet (taking lessons) so we have 2 carseats which are premenantly in my mums car, not the 3rd as baby isn't due for a long while.

Plus the carseats we have were just chosen pretty randomly so they are quite hefty.

So we would probably need to re buy them to fit and get a baby seat.

So Im asking which seats are 'thinnest'

I think any seats should probbaly fit in a Megane TBH. My brother has one and he has 3 seats across the back - they are supposed to be small MPVs aren't they?

Disenchanted · 27/04/2008 09:30

its not a megane scenic,

its an older 5 door hatchback. its not one of these new ones.

LIZS · 27/04/2008 09:50

I've sat between 2 car seats in back of one before now. A 3rd seat is tight (might get buckle crunch) even in a Scenic but not impossible - you'd need to try it really with various models. Freeway is now badged as Fisher Price. Do check the middle belt as it was a just lapbelt on original models but a Freeway can fit with that.
