Need a bookcase

I need either two separate bookcases or one bigger one. I have tried an amazon basics bookcase and it has been unstable, flimsy and unfit for purpose but I got what I payed for.

Go to an actual furniture shop?
Try FB Marketplace
If you have a bit of spare cash, maybe commission them? We have a great cupboard made for a difficult space by a cabinet maker.

We have a local furniture shop which sells solid wood, ready made furniture. It's not cheap, but I've had a few display models over the years.
John Lewis?
Ikea?

As you said, you get what you pay for with furniture.

IKEA Billys are pretty good - I've got some heavy books on mine. Mine have also survived moving house.

My non-Billy book cases are all inherited, solid wood.

I have a friend who had a carpenter fit bespoke shelves in one room - is that something you could look at?

I think I will try to save for something more solid. I’m not rich, bespoke and getting things made sounds particularly expensive.

We have local charity shops that just sell furniture and they get some quality items in- that might be worth a try.

Some of these are deep. I bought a couple similar to the maine many years ago. The deep ones are very good for folders. Otherwise if you have any furniture charity shops or second hand/antique ones nearby.
