I feel like I’m at the end of my tether and joined mumsnet specifically to get help on this topic which I know is probably a problem of the first world but is genuinely causing me great concern. Hoping in this group I will finally find someone who experiences similar-
DS (12) has already grown out of his school shoes, yes my mistake for buying at the beginning of the summer holidays (for the discount stupid me) and now I have to go through the regular search for narrow school shoes.
He wears a size 6 1/2 and we normally go for Startrite on account of him having narrow feet which I understand is rather rare for boys.
We particularly find it hard finding trainers.
Measured he comes out at a E width fitting but there have been times he needed D.
As he gets older I find it harder and harder to find him properly fitting shoes and normally have to get him inner soles to pad out the trainers.
Does anyone else in here have boys with narrow feet? What do you do as they get older and the choice for narrow fitting feet gets smaller?
I noticed he has become somewhat self conscious about this- he has an overall narrow build so it is hardly surprising to have narrow feet I know. But he blushes and is clearly uncomfortable getting measured in traditional shoe shops and insists on going ONLY when there is nobody else there.
I know with all that’s going on in the world that this is a very trivial problem but it’s become a struggle and any other parents with similar challenge I would be immensely grateful to hear your experiences. Including if you recognise this sort of self consciousness in boys with narrow feet (I guess to do with the need to not seem weak or girly).
