Aerobeds - are they worth the money?

We're thinking of getting a basic double raised Aerobed for our spare room. It has a proper double in at the moment, but we like to have more space when we don't have visitors. The current bed is quite old, with a pretty soft mattress, so not a major loss.

I like the idea of an Aerobed, but I'm balking slightly at the price. How good are they, really? Is the basic one okay for infrequent use - or given that I'm spending £120 anyway, should I spend a little more for a fancier one?

DH went out and bought one at Christmas - against my wishes- and I have to say that it is fabulous. Just so comfortable, and it does inflate super quick.
Friends have the raised one as their sole spare bed and are very pleased with it too.

we actually got a double airbed from costco for £20 and it's blooming amazing (and v comfy - i slept on it several times while heavily pg and doing up our new house). i love it and i'm sooo glad we didn't get a sofa bed/futon which were our other options.

Argos have a raised one that's much cheaper than an aerobed - my mum uses one as her spare bed and it's been brilliant - and only 35 quid-ish.

I think babyjjbaby means Intex. These look good and could solve our problems when we've got guests as we've just parted with our ancient sofa-bed!

Its the classic (I think) - has the thingy for adjusting the hardness and a matress topper.

We have had a number of other airbeds over the years, and this is the only one that I'd happily use as a routine spare bed, rather than just when we have more guests than beds or for camping

cornflakegirl · 21/04/2008 13:43

hmmm... that's a lot cheaper - don't suppose anyone has tried both?

thanks everyone for the comments - they're really helpful.
