Is it bad for children to stand/sit very close to the TV?

Our toddler goes through phases where he wants to sit/stand very close (a few feet) from the TV. Is this more harmful than sitting on the sofa about 8 - 10 feet away?
It's one of those big CRT TV's. Thanks.

nope. It's just from back when tvs used to emitt harmful rays. I don't think it's every been proved to cause eye damage.
