They really are.

We have had ours since 2002.
Luckily we bought an extra waranty to cover any problems we had with it.
It has now run out and every year in that Waranty we have had to have something replaced on it.

Now our fan belt has gone on it so I can't hoover up using the blasted thing upright, I have to bend my back and use the sodding attachments.
And not only that, the suction has gone on it.

Again.

So unless you want to prove me wrong Mr Dyson then I swear that I will never in my life own another.

Oh and my mum has had the exact same problems with hers too.

i have to get one of those hosey things for mine, it broke the other day

2nd dyson i have owned, last one didnt suck properly

edam · 13/04/2008 12:14

Yup, you are so right. Get a Henry - fab. If it's good enough for sucking up builder's mess it's good enough for me.

Nbg · 13/04/2008 12:15

Yep hose has gone on mine before too.
In fact twice now I think about it.

And the extra animal bit on it doesnt do what its supposed to.

Henrys are good.

My mum used to have one and it was always reliable.

Henry here too!

misdee · 13/04/2008 12:31

new dysons come with standard 5year warrenty if thats any help.

mylovelymonster · 13/04/2008 12:42

Miele. End of.

morningpaper · 13/04/2008 12:53

HENRYS ARE TERRIBLE

I took mine back this week after 10 MONTHS of it breaking and being shit

I got a MEILE INSTEAD

OMG I am sooo happy

It's changed my life

on-board tools, excellent air filtration, adjustable suction... I could go on

morningpaper · 13/04/2008 12:55

I have had Dysons too - they are FAB for the first few weeks but then RUBBISH for the next x years until you buy a MIELE and are happy again

Nbg · 13/04/2008 12:56

Ahhh but how much are Miele's?

Dysons need to come with a 5 year g'tee!

mylovelymonster · 13/04/2008 12:57

mp - good choice
We have a cat&dog - mostly useful in picking up my long hairs strewn around the place, rather than the cat's, but hey ho.
Adjustable suction......six settings!! Turbo power mind boggling.

mylovelymonster · 13/04/2008 12:58

I think our miele was £170. RRP was £190, and we got it off a net retailer.

OverMyDeadBody · 13/04/2008 12:59

Am of all of you with proper vacuum cleaners, I bet no matter how shit they are they are better than the cheap tesco's own crap excuse for a hoover I have!

DontCallMeBaby · 13/04/2008 13:00

Nbq, Currys currently have a handheld Dyson that costs more than my brand new Miele if that give you any idea ... their vacuums are a lot more competitively priced than their dishwashers!

morningpaper · 13/04/2008 13:00

Yes I got the model ABOVE the cat and dog this time, which seemed to be identical except with HEPA filters (DH/dd has allergies). I love it so much I could cry. The SHEER JOY of doing the bathroom and popping up the on-board tools and switching heads in a second to do the dust on the toilet ... AAAAhhhh it's just a JOY to use.

morningpaper · 13/04/2008 13:02

Dysons have a long guarantee BUT although there is nothing SERIOUSLY wrong after a year - the suction just GOES. Whereas a Meile will suck the same 5 years down the road.

Meile comes with a 2 year standard guarantee but for £12 a year you can extend that to a 5 year guarantee which includes ALL PARTS.

Nbg · 13/04/2008 13:02

I'm going to have a look.
Not that we have 2 pennys to rub together atm.

Haaving 2 dogs who loose hair badly and 3 children under 4, the house is a mess and the Dyson isnt up to it anymore.

TheCoderator · 13/04/2008 13:18

my new free tiny one is great

beaniesteve · 13/04/2008 13:19

"And the extra animal bit on it doesnt do what its supposed to"

THIS ^^

mine has not worked for ages and I don't know why!

Nbg · 13/04/2008 14:03

Oh I am glad cod

Why is it when you have no money everything goes wrong.
Had a bloody leak a couple of weeks ago and have a part of a wall without paper on, now the hoover.
Whats next!

The Miele looks good.
Will have to ask Santa claus a.k.a mum and dad for it.
Until Decemeber I wont be hoovering.

I may drown in dog hair.

Dysons come with a 5 year warranty

Seona1973 · 13/04/2008 14:17

mieles are cheaper than dysons - I have a miele hepa 5280 and it has great suction and comes with 3 interchangeable heads depending on the floor surface plus the usual crevice tools, etc. It also has a bigger dust capacity and lasts longer before needing emptying.

solo · 13/04/2008 14:19

I've had my Dyson DC01 upright for almost 10 years with no problems to speak of!and yes I do use it!!! I LOVE it!

Boco · 13/04/2008 14:21

ohhh.
I thought that ess haach eye tea was going to be german - something like vorsprong derch technic or whatever it was.
