Thinking of buying dp a scalextric set for xmas - if I buy the cheap set, can it be added to at a later date?

Before anyone asks, its because he bemoaned our lack of boy child by complaining that he now wouldnt have a Scalextric.

You certainly used to be able to add track, cars accessories etc. Try independent toy shops or hobby/model shops such as Beatties (possibly only in the South of England)or The Entertainer.

You can add bits for sure, but unless you have a large floor space to lay it out on I wouldn't bother as it only really becomes interesting if you have a large track layout!

I've been considering getting it for DH to continue the tradition of buying him toys for Xmas (so far he's had a remote control car, a Playstation, a Hornby railway, K'Nex and Lego!).

Yes you can add to it but the danger is, like our Hornby, it will only come out once a year unless you can leave it somewhere long term.

Enid - Scalextric track is very expensive, as are other accessories. It is far far cheaper to buy a bigger set in the first place.

I know nothing abut it but apparantley my children (2yr+10 month dd and 10 month old ds) want it for Christmas, according to dh!

My DH bought some second hand when DS1 was only a few weeks old (MEN!!!). He then bought more when DS1 was a few months old and it all fits together fine. DH and DS1 have now recently started playing with it together (previously it was just DH and his pals), it seems to work out well as if it is just DH and DS1 they just set out a small simple track whereas if 'the big boys' are playing they make it more complex. I would imagine he will be thrilled if you buy him it!

Just be careful that you don?t get the 'junior' scalextric ?it isn?t compatible with the normal stuff so isn?t very expandable.

Probably not what you need but I noticed the other day that they actually so scalextric computer games. You can set up the track as you like etc. Just a thought!!

FIL got a big scalextric set for his 60th, loves it! Grandchildren like it too.
