Trying to find "china" plates for my children

I have been using crappy old Noddy and Baby humprey melamine plates and bowls for my ds's who are now 5yrs old for about 4 years. I now want to use "proper" stuff but our plates and bowls are just too big. Can anyone recommend some nice "china" plates and/or cereal bowls for children?? I looked in Peter Jones today but no luck.

What about using side plates instead of dinner plates?

canadianmum · 11/04/2008 20:02

our side plates are too small. I thought it would be easy to find plates around the size of the crappy plastic ones we had but is terribly difficult for some reason

You might be able to get fish plates - in between size. We have these from the standard Homebase white porcelaine range.

Denby plates come in all sorts of sizes (if you are feeling brave), I use a side plate for my ds, it's bigger then a normal side plate but smaller then a dinner plate so it's just right.

we got some smallish plates in IKEA that we use for the DCs. they were 19p each or something ridiculous and are about halfway between a standard side plate and a proper dinner plate.

we've also got some multi-coloured ones that we got in ASDA a couple of years ago, similar sized.

lots of crockery ranges do 'breakfast' or 'dessert' plates that are smaller than dinner plates but bigger than side plates, iyswim.
dinner plates are 25-28cm
dessert plates are 19-23cm (the elephant ones ar epretty cool)

and noodle bowls are a good size for kids too.

(I knew we had all plain white crockery for a reason...)
