Stage 2 car seat in middle of second row in XC90

Has anyone put a car seat here? Can you still get into the back row?

Our stage 2 seat is so broad the seats either side don't tip forward; it blocks them.

maybe you need to get a different car seat?we have 2 different group 2 seats and there is about 10-15cm difference in the width of them!
maybe worth a trip to halfords to see if any fit?

We have an XC90 and tbh I put ds3's seat (he's in stage 2-3 now and it utilises the car's own seatbelt) behind the front passenger seat. My dd can then use the integral central booster and access to the 3rd row for my eldsest 2 is via the seat at the other side.

Perhaps your Volvo dealer could help - though they'd probably want to flog you one of their own seats !

a bit cheeky but - we have the cover for the in built middle booster seat if you need it - £10 + P&P

Mumsfruitandnut · 07/04/2008 19:34

I've never heard of a cover for the integral booster Furball - is it a safety thing? I did wonder if it would be unsafe to put a car seat on top of the booster, though of course it would be folded down, but the only 'no' I have found about siting a car seat here is to do with the Isofix base support leg, which obviously won't fit on the transmission hump.

The reason i want to try a seat in the middle is (a) because I was told continually in the States that this is the safest place and (b) my baby SCREAMS on car journeys. I though if she could see better (ie, sraight forward, not blocked by the back of a seat) she might be more entertained.

All good arguments for using the middle seat MFN. Only other option maybe is to go to Halfords or somewhere similar and see which (narrow based)car seat will fit.

The cover furball is talking about is a sort of extra support sold by Volvo - maybe online in their Accessories catalogue ?

I wouldn't put a car seat on the integral booster seat. just put it in with it folded up. How old is your child?

The thing I have is a cover with sidey bits to stop your child flopping over if asleep. It doesn't say from what age but it is on volvo website under 'Comfort upholstery and head support'

Ooh Furball - yes I would like that. Tell me where to send money ... (I would un-boost the booster before putting a car seat on it btw).

And those of you who have suggested a narrower seat .. I think that's the answer, many thanks. I was hoping someone would write in to say that they had tried the Maxi-Cosi second stage seat in that position but sadly not ... so'll I'll have to go on a measuring rampage.

we had and xc90... the middle booster thing has a conversion kit to make it into a carset... tho not sure what group. its nowt fancy, just a cover which has sides on and that...

uttertripe · 08/04/2008 19:28

iirc, i could just manage to get 2 maxicosi stage 2 seats (i think?? the one from 9m+, forward facing) and an infant carrier all on the middle row.
