I need a new Music System - anyone got a BOSE?

The adverts make this system sound good. Are they?

If not, can anyone else recommend a good system, particularly for playing CDs

Do you mean the wave?

We have had one for a few years now, the sound is indeed much better than you would expect from its size, it's just a question of whether you're prepared to pay the rather eye-watering price for it. It was DH's purchase!

They do have showrooms scattered around, if you want to have a listen first...

southeastastra · 07/04/2008 15:20

ooh i'd love a bose

and especially those earphones that block out all sound. could do with them now.

TheBlonde · 07/04/2008 15:20

we have this one instead of the bose creative

Earlybird · 07/04/2008 15:51

I have a Bose system, with cd player/tuner/speakers, and have been very happy with it. Sound is brilliant (it is about 10 years old now).

TerriHatchetJob · 07/04/2008 16:21

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I was talking about the wave MrsDepp. I've looked at the Bose for £499 but I don't mind the cost (in whatever I buy) as I've learnt the hard way that you get what you pay for!

That Creative one you have theBlonde is a great price. Do you reckon it is as good?

I'm just trying to avoid getting that awful tinny sound you get on cheaper systems - I'm assuming the Creative doesn't do this TheBlond?

And Earlybird, does the sound really fill the room in quality sound like the advert says?

We have a technics. The sound quality on it is lovely. It's this one here I would recomend it, but then I haven't really looked at bose systems.
I do have bose earphones and bose computer speakers, and they are great. I love their earphones.

ChopsTheDuck · 07/04/2008 16:43

everywhere I look online, mine has 5 stars, it's def worth a look at.

Earlybird · 07/04/2008 17:00

Terri - even my 'old' system gives a fabulous sound, and does 'fill the room'. I will definitely look at Bose again when I next look for sound equipment.

BeauLocks · 07/04/2008 17:01

We have these. They are fab. As is their stand-your-ipod-in thing.

TerriHatchetJob · 07/04/2008 17:03

Thnks ChopsTheDuck. That one has had fab reviews. I couldn't find the price amongst all the reviews though! Any idea what you paid?

So can you plug yours into the TV and get the surround sound whilst watching DVDs?

OP posts:
ChopsTheDuck · 07/04/2008 17:10

yep, it's jsut like being in the cinema! I think we paid about £450, Id have to check with dp. We've had it a couple of years now.

ChopsTheDuck · 07/04/2008 17:13

There are two set ups. It seems to retail for around £500, depending if you include the dvd player in. We got the option wihtout the dvd player because we had recently bought a good one, and it was a bit cheaper.

TeriHatchetJob · 07/04/2008 17:17

OK. Thanks for that.

This is all helpful. If any more recommendations come in I'll make a short list and order something.

Can't wait to 'fill my room'!

TheBlonde · 07/04/2008 17:42

v happy with the creative, we have 2

iirc you can't adjust the bass, treble etc on the bose (but I might have just imagined that)
