Mothercare Coolmax pocket sprung mattress - what way up does it go?

I am probably being really dim... one side has like a mesh, the other just normal silky mattress material - which one is the top side? Thanks so much!

Mesh side. It's the part (if it's like mine) that is like the "lid" of the mattress cover.

It did look liddy, but then not very waterproof so I thought maybe it goes at the bottom for air... So complicated!

Yes it's mesh side up.
On mine the top layer used to unzip to go in the wash and the waterproof layer was underneath and could just be wiped over with a cloth if needed.
