urgent / sewing machine

I am looking for a cheap, small and simple sewing machine to do a few mendings and simple things a bit urgently. I saw some easy stitch machines like JML which are about £20, but then read some reviews about them saying that "don't buy this product". I need any experiences, advices, suggestions, etc... Anybody out there can help me?
It can be second hand too, if anybody wants to sell their own machine.
Love.
Maggie

I bought a new sewing machine on Ebay last year. It was about £80 and the fourth product up from the most basic.

The place I got mine was Buy it Now and had next day delivery as standard.

She magazine this month has a special offer on one for £99. It's a toyota I think.

John lewis sell sewing machines from about £90 odd I think. I would advise against any 'easy stitch' type machines as they are anything but easy in my experience.

If you are a complete novice, somewhere like John Lewis or an independent sewing shop will also show you how to use the machine (which can be quite tricky to work out if you've never used one before).

If you know what you're doing then I'd second the ebay advice. I love ebay!

I bought one of those tiny jml type things last wek - hadnt read any reviews - was a spur of the moment thing as I needed to stitch some blackout material to ds's curtains.

Its not great by any stetch of the imagination, needle kept unthreading which was a ball ache but to be honest for what I will need it for - taking up my trousers as I'm a short arse petite its ok? Only paid £17 from dunelm mill?
