Can't get to grips with Freedom Pouch Sling - Help!!

Managed to use it successfully in the first couple of weeks but now I can't seem to position ds (4 weeks) so that he is comfortable - He cries when I put him in it and seems squashed and hates the cradle type hold.

Any ideas or should I cut my losses and get an ergo??

I have a Murron's Pouch and DH has a hotsling, which are slightly different to the Freedom Pouch, but from a teeny age dd hated being laid too flat - I had to put the sling on with the seam of the sling in the centre of my body and put her in bottom first so she was amost sitting up.
