Pantyliners

Are there any which don't have a waterproof backing?

Oh, well at end of period it's fair enough I suppose, it just wouldn't occur to me to use them for any other time (although I don't use them at all, even end of period)

But thrush is caused by candida in your system becoming out of balance - so although the symptoms might be external, the cause is internal.

You should be cautious all the time about what you're eating if you're suffering regularly.

Yes, external conditions will aggravate it - but you need to stop wearing pantyliners as this will only keep the moisture/fungus closer to your skin as nothing will breathe.

If moistness is really a problem then you need to stop wearing close fitting trousers. If you won't do this, then be prepared to change your underwear several times during the day.

I have been there, done it, got the t-shirt, blah, blah, blah. Honestly, there is no alternative.

mine just went off in the end

and I do eat and drink incredibly badly

WideWebWitch · 30/03/2008 23:35

No the feminist argument against them (well, mine anyway) is that normal vaginal moisture is normal and fine and normal vaginas don't smell horrible or anything so none of us need air freshener in our pants. Adn you don't see 'cock freshener' being sold because men aren't told their cocks smell, whereas women are often made to feel there's something smelly and horrible about their vaginas.

Must go to bed!

PrettyCandles · 30/03/2008 23:36

What you say makes sense. But what's the difference between changing pantyliners several times a day and changing knickers several times a day (assuming the pantyliners are not waterproof, of course)?

What went off, Capumccino?

BTW, my sister developed ME, too - but years after the candidiasis had been resolved.

Well presumably you've not been changing knickers several times a day, whereas pantyliners you have been doing - but pantyliners aren't as breathable as your knickers.

And if you're wearing tight fitting trousers this will not have been helping.

soapbox · 30/03/2008 23:40

Funnily enough - pantyliners give me thrush - the only thing that does. There is something in them that irritates my fanjo and then a few days later I get thrush.

It took me a while to work it out though - I only ever wore them when pregnant and though the thrush was hormonal!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 30/03/2008 23:43

fannys that do not smell fresh with daily washing need to see a doc imo

i am sure someone somewhere in Smithklein beecham will see a graph correlating huge rise in sales of thrush medicaments with an equivelent increase in women putting bits of scented paper and plastic in their pants everyday

its simply unnatural

PrettyCandles · 30/03/2008 23:43

Which is why I want to try and find pantyliners that are more breathable than the ones I have been using.

lol pretty - are we going round in proverbial circles!?

BecauseImWorthIt · 30/03/2008 23:44

But your pants are breathable!

If they're getting that moist, then just change them.

Honestly, pantyliners will not help you.

soapbox · 30/03/2008 23:45

PC - just try without them and see how you go. I think it is the absorbent material that is the problem, not the breathability. Although it may be the perfume come to think about it!

Some people are just naturally more dischargey than others....

Seriously - Wee Notions. Get cotton topped, cotton middle. They fold up small, they are soft and natural.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 31/03/2008 17:49

ewwww flame what a horrid word

sounds like some nasty toxic waste

Hulababy · 31/03/2008 17:58

controlfreakyagain - I have used them a lot in the past as that was all the protection I required during my period. Since my recent surgery I need a bit more, and have started using a Mooncup instead.

PrettyCandles · 31/03/2008 20:22

Shush, dear, shush.
